Roasted no salt added peanuts in the shell-what do I do with them

We received a 3 pound bag of peanuts and of course not near as tasty as the ones with Salt. Any suggestions on how I might doctor them up or what I might do with them? They certainly are healthier but I don't want to have them sit around and be wasted.

I would say give them to someone who appreciates them....or shell them out and salt them.

I would reserve a few in the shell to crack and munch on while watching sports.

The rest I would shell and heat in a skillet with a little oil. When they were hot I would add salt and powdered chili to taste. In my case that would be quite a lot of powdered chili.

That is a T&T recipe.

What are boiled peanuts? Boiled peanuts are simply RAW (unroasted) peanuts boiled in salty water for a long time. They are a common snack in the states of South Carolina, Georgia, northern Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and to a lesser extent, North Carolina and Virginia. Boiled peanuts (and similarly boiled soybeans) also exist in other cultures around the globe, throughout Asia, especially, and Western Africa. Boiled peanuts are boiled in the shell and are consumed, still wet, by cracking open the softened shell and slurping down the contents along with the brine. Well I went out and pulled off the dark brown/black ones that have dried out. Cracking open the shell was a lot like cracking open some peanuts. Anyways, the beans that came out were perfect. I still have the original batch of soybeans from the asian market. My grown ones look almost exactly the same. The only difference is that mine are just not quite as fat. Also I'm growing some mung beans. Same deal there, I pulled off a dry pod and cracked it open. The beans look the same as the bag of mung beans I grew them from. I'm still amazed I got any beans at all from these plants. I mean I truly treated them like crap. They were not at the edge of my balcony but close to my door. So they only got direct sunlight for about 5 hours a day. The stuff at the edge get 8 or 9 hours. I grew them in crappy $4 for 40 pound "organic" potting soil. No fertilizers added or anything. I really haven't been very diligent with watering them either. These bean plants never had any good looking leaves. They've all been full of brown spots and frayed edges. I've built one of those earthbox type self watering containers and have a tomato plant and basil plant in it. They've grown so quick and look so healthy. I'm going to build some more and I want to try a soybean plant in there to see how it does when it's treated nice.

sorry to bump a long dead thread... but... i picked up about a pound of worms from a friend who is an environmental scientist... an experiment had run it's course and he gave me the "control" group... i started them out in a plastic tote, and eventually ordered a Worm Factory and 2lbs of worms (more the merrier right? :) ) i had read on one of the worm farm websites that peanut shells were great bedding and the worms would love 'em... not sure which website it was.... so i added a few handfulls of salt free roasted peanut shells... they haven't been in there long.... they have softened and discolored.... but haven't broken down yet... neither have crushed eggshells placed in at the same time... so this thread is disturbing me a bit.... anyone else have experience with peanut shells in bins? roasted, raw, salted, not salted.... when you by roasted peanuts... are the shells coated with some sort of wax or soaked in a preservative? maybe boiling the shells for 10 minutes or so would ease the breakdown process?

A couple of years ago I was able to sit outside more and experiment with the jays. I would select peanuts that were to me of similar size and shape. The jays would examine two or three, never four or more, before taking one away to bury it. I would add weight to one peanut of similar appearance and after examination they would take away the heaver one. This I repeated many times. I tried painting Some with a pink felt point. They would take the unpainted peanuts first and come back for the painted ones. Perhaps I can try coloring an almond brown.

Unsalted peanuts are also a nice addition to oatmeal cookies.

Get used to them! I found that with a bit of "practice" I've come to like unsalted nuts just fine.

I've done that before and it's good but I can't eat too many nuts now.
Even added some sugar.

I buy 2 lb. bags to feed the Animals,
mostly birds.
But I squeeze the shells a little to crack them.

If you are interested , many birds like them.
Nuthatches, Woodpeckers, Titmouse, Blue Jays and a few others.

Make peanut butter. We used to make our own until they started selling it freshly made in the health-food store. All you need is a food processor (or a blender) and a little bit of oil, preferably peanut, to get it going. Salt if you want to add it--I never do. And some extra chopped peanuts to stir in at the end if you want crunchy rather than smooth.

Great ideas!! I would like to try to make my own peanut butter and I think I will roast some in the oven also. Thanks everyone.

Oh I would just eat them like that. I don't like salted peanuts anyway. If you must have the salt, you can always toast them in a small frying pan with a bit of salt to satisfy your taste. I also second the idea of making peanut butter. My all natural peanut butter has no salt in it. But of course, I don't like salty peanuts therefore I enjoy salt-less peanut butter. If the peanut butter turned out to be too "plain" you can always add some salt in the process. Way better than the stuff you buy in a store. :-)

I also use small amount of peanuts in stir fries or any recipes that call for cashew or other nuts. Put a handful in your fried rice, they definitely give you a better crunch. Got to love peanuts! YUM!

Make pad thai and sprinkle chopped roasted (unsalted) peanuts on it. Great taste!
