You're smart to get bagless over bagged. If you MUST have one of these (to be honest I'd rather have a used quality product than a cheap new one (maybe Panisonic or Sanitaire, you could probably get a new low end Panisonic for a similar price), I'd say to go with the Eureka. Here are a few reasons why... this isn't organized... just ramblings as I compare the two mentally. I used to sell these Eurekas at Sears when I worked for them and the Hoover version as well. The Eureka is heavy, and the attachments fall off. BUT... the Eureka is MUCH quieter, and I feel more solidly built. The Hoover has a little more aggressive agitation, but the Eureka is sufficient. The Euereka has a more comfortable handle (providing the seam where each half of the handle meets doesn't protrude and cut into your hand, I've seen some that are like that)... it is contoured instead of straight like the Hoover. The Eurekas's height adjustment is easier to use... the Hoover takes more force. The Eureka's hose is much better quailty, though more narrow than the Hoover's thin plastic hose. The Eureka requires you to turn a valve to switch from carpet to attachments, the Hoover you just pick the hose up and suction will be there. That's not a bad thing, just a matter of fact. The switch on the Eureka is a little easier to get to (it's a little higher up). The Eureka gives the ability to turn the brush roll off for bare floors (which may not matter for you since you need it for carpet. This isn't to say the Eureka is good and that all Hoover's are bad (stuff made before the 90's is good), but in this case, this specific Eureka is much better than this specific Eureka. I think the Eureka even won best buy in Consumer's Report... not that that means anything, sometimes their opinions are dreadful, and possibly purchased!

So far so good. In fact, so good that I don't have to "beg" DH to vacuum anymore - he just does it. But I would not call it a "stick" - it is slim, but not that slim. It is easy to maneuver indeed. We used it on carpet and on hard surfaces as well. Mary is right, any place selling it lists the accessories. It does have a dusting brush/crevice tool combo but the brush is quite small. It is great for blinds but probably not so much if you have a lot of upholstered furniture. DH cleaned a fabric sleeper - very dusty because we did not think to cover it BEFORE starting the remodel - and it came out very clean though it took awhile. There was a good website where I read the reviews before purchasing the vac. I think it was among the first ones you get if you Google it. One lady there was not happy about the small brush and got another brush attachment (Kenmore? about $10) that worked perfectly with Dyson. The only potential problem with Dysons is reliability. ConsumerSearch.com reports some complaints about it in the UK but for an earlier model. We've had the vac for less than a month - only time will tell.

My apologies if this ends up being a double post; I posted this already, but it never showed up, so I'll try again... (FYI, x-posted to Home Decor Conversations forum, also) I'm looking at the Hoover Linx Stick Vac, trying to decide if it's really worth the price (~$160-180). I currently have the Electrolux Pronto 2-in-1 cordless stick vac. It worked well initially, but after about 2.5 yrs, the battery died. That's when I found out it does not have a replaceable battery :-o So, I'm in the market again, as I love the convenience of the cordless style. I don't use it for all of my hard floors, primarily only for the kitchen, so I don't need a long charge time. I've checked the Linx's reviews at various online retailers, now I'm just curious if anyone here has actual experience w/ it. Thanks for your input! We are in the market for a new one too. We have the Electrolux Rapido Lyban referenced. It's been a pretty good little vac for 2 years, but just has no oomph anymore. I was i a vacuum store recently, and got into a discussion about stick vacs with the manager. He showed me the Spiffy Maid which is made by Fuller Brush. Turned that one upside down and let me feel the suction as compared to all the others named here and many more. Wow -much, much more suction. Has to do with the size of something blah, blah, blah -I didn't really pay attention. The only negative (for me) is that it has a cord. But really, really great suction. It also has a neat little feature. The crevice tool snaps into place down by the head so that you can run it along your baseboards and really get it clean.
