Kelsey's new dog bed....

She has bad hips..arthritis. Ever since we took the carpet out a few years ago she is having a hard time finding a comfortable spot to lay. She usually lays on throw rug. We have tried many beds for her. Our living room is small and with all of the kids we have no room to leave a huge bed out for her. So we've been dragging it in and out everynight for her to sleep on. After awhile it stinks and is full of hair. I got so tired of doing all the moving it around and washing it every few days. I saw this and decided to try it. She took to it right away and slept all night on it. I usually hear her and Dudley both walking around during the night to switch spots to sleep. DH got up to check on them a few times to see if they wanted to go out and he said she was sleeping on it everytime he got up. This is made of the kind of mesh that the beach/patio chairs are made of. It supposed to keep her cooler as it's off of the floor/ground and relieve those pressure points for her. Kind of like our sleep number bed...but without the controls! She must have loved it because she slept all night! When I first opened it and set it up yesterday Dudley was the first one to hop up on it....now when Kelsey isn't on it he is! I'm ordering another one today for Dudley. He's not hurting anywhere, but I'm sure he'd appreciate some comfort too......also this can be folded up, it's lightweight and it can be hosed down...no more stinky dog beds! Hooray!

That would be great in our 5th wheel for Charlie where did you get it? We just have one big dog bed here as the puppies sleep with us but during the day Ivy has taken to it. It is cute cuz it is the size for a golden and she is a 8lb....doxie....lOl STacy

I bought one similar to that two years ago to keep on the back porch for Buddy, but I like yours much better. The one we had ( before Luther tore it up ) slid onto the frame the way a curtain slides onto a rod. The last side to put together was quite difficult. Did yours come assembled?

Kelsey looks so sweet in that picture.

It sounds to me like you are taking the appropriate first steps in ruling out a urinary problem. Urinary problems aren't always infections, however. There is a condition called overflow incontinence, and it was displayed by a schnauzer we had years ago. He went out to pee frequently, but we weren't watching how much urine he was passing when he did, evidently. I found him on our couch peeing one day and he rarely, if ever, had accidents in the house. His bladder was full to nearly bursting, and he had a stone blockage and the pressure of the urine in his bladder was forcing it out. I doubt this is the case in a dog as young as your's however. I had another little schnauzer/poodle mix who was very good with his house-training and knew he was not to defecate on the floor. He got creative then when he needed to go and nobody was around to let him out. He deposited a pile on the woodwork, carefully balanced.......on top of a floor waxer and in my daughter's ballet slipper. Technically he did not poop on the floor, or at least I suspect this is how his thinking process worked. Peeing on beds, well that's not the same as floors. LOL. Maybe your dog is thinking this too. First off, is he urinating or marking? There is a distinct difference and you can usually tell by the amount passed. Secondly........marking is reduced if a male dog is neutered young enough. Has he been? Thirdly, dogs learn best by positive reinforcement. Not negative. I understand your frustration and desire to punish him, but it's self defeating. Poodles are very intelligent animals and usually pick up on house-training quickly and easily. I think as others have said, you may need to go back to square one and re-train him and do it by the book. Dogs do display behavioral problems too. I'm not qualified to even discuss that, but there is a chance it's intentional if he is. I wish you luck, but if you rule out physical problems, it's solvable with a lot of patience and doing it right.

Both of our beloved canines are now gone, but we settled on a Better World Large Orthopedic Dog Bed for our lab. He loved that bed, and it was very comfortable for him. It is about 6 inches thick and did not flatten though he weighed over 100 pounds. The cover is very easy to remove and wash. It is made in the USA (I did NOT want anything made in china) and they donate 10% of their profits to the Humane Society.

ditto morz8's comment. I too love dogs but my kids' animals don't get much face time with me in my garden. I give them plenty of attention at family gatherings. They're dogs; they don't know the rules when they're in a garden not their own. Since she brought the dog and you had freshly cultivated dirt, I think I'd have experienced a Red Alert. Shouldn't be the kiss of death for your seedlings unless the dog chewed them. WS seedlings tend to be tough little troopers.

I"m glad you found a scented detergent that makes you happy. :) Scent is one of those things that really stirs up memories. It does have a scent that seems to me one either likes very much or not at all. Hubby loves the scent, whereas me, I'd rather not have to smell it, ever. Funny how that happens. Just want to give a head's up that Tide Pur Clean liquid detergent can be a suds maker. With a new Electrolux washer on the way (assuming it's a FL), you will have to monitor how well your washer handles the suds. If your water is hard, you will have less of a problem. For me, with soft water and a full fill top loader (implying I should have less issues with suds than a FL owner), it's a groan worthy event when I use the small bottle gifted to me. Anyhow, I'd suggest to turn on the extra rinse function either way. when using it going forward to avoid any build up in the new washing machine. You should be fine then. It seems to clean well, even at the minuscule doses we have to use due to sudsing for us, but those suds... Hoping your new washer arrives early and you enjoy it.

It did come assembled...just unfold it and it's done! I got it from QVC.....here's the item number. M128968...they come in 3 sizesd. This is the largest one.

Well...it's 10:15 here and she's still in her bed! By now she's up and outside. Her snores are making me crazy and I don't have the heart to wake her and kick her out. I will put her bed out there with her though to keep her off of the cold cement. They kids are getting pretty noisy...she should be waking up soon.

If Kelsey's still sleeping when she usually isn't, that shows you how much more comfortable she is. Good for you, gwanny.

A neighbor has this style of bed for his 2 large dogs. The beds are just behind the driveway gate where they spend their outside time.

Cute bed and cute dog!!! We have one of those discs that look like a thick frisbee from Petsmart. You heat it in a microwave for 5 minutes and it stays hot for hours. When we had an elderly dog, I used to wrap it in her blankets, now my son (9) takes it to bed at night when its cold. Maybe Kelsey would like one too.

Oh I'll have to check that disc out! She is so comfortable on this bed..makes a huge difference for her. I just put her outside and put her bed by the gate in the driveway...that's where she and Dudley lay all day just watching the world go by! She did her "business" ate a little dry food and got comfy again.

He needs a bigger one as he should be able to completely stretch right out when he sleeps, he looks incomfortable with his head not laying down and his back legs squished up.

When our male dog sleeps he stretches right out flat on his side and his head is right down on the couch or bed and he can stretch out his back legs too straight out.

Just a thought is all from what I watched our dogs sleep and how they like to stretch out and put their head straight down on the floor, bed, where ever they are laying down on.
