Ann, I am so glad you are enjoying everything. I had a lot of fun putting this together for you, including trying to make everything fit my chosen theme. Actually I don't have that cookbook, I did almost buy myself one. Sebastian has the 3 picture books that are shown on the back, they are alphabet books. He loves them as they talk about 2 of his favorite places, Cape Cod and NYC. I am from NY and many people love him there. I was planning on xeroxing a few recipes but I wanted to get the box out fast so I didn't. But I am sure the indian pudding recipe is a good one, just don't make it with wheat flour like I did the first time I made it :-) Annie, funny that you love that photo, I sent the same card to you in your birthday package. I bought to many of them, so I think many more swaps will have them. Later I will post a more recent photo. Julian is 6 months now, tried solid food for the first time today. Oh yeah, he is 18 lbs 3 oz's and 28 inches long!! The maple syrup is Grade B by the way and thanks to this swap Sebastian knows that we prefer Grade B. He wandered around the Dakin farms store with me saying, "Where is the grade B." I haver also promised to show him a maple syrup grader as he asked over our pumpkin pancakes this week what the difference is. -Robin

We have postponed sushi until tomorrow or Tuesday - we have had too much to do today. Last week, our refrigerator at the Salem house died, and I guess we did not notice until a couple of days later, as much of the food in the freezer had spoiled. Kevin ordered a new fridge from Home Depot because he had a 10% off coupon, and the Presidents' Day specials had been extended. Thursday, the solar panel company came to install the panels, and they were here on Friday until very late, and still did not finish, and so that had to come back on Saturday, which is the day that the refrigerator was going to be delivered at the other house, but fortunately not until 3 PM. After the solar panel company finished, we went to the other house to clean the floors as much as possible from the mess that the old fridge had made, and the delivery came a bit early, which was nice. I had salvaged a lot from the old fridge, as it had a lot of flours in the freezer, along with way more nuts than I realized, plus some yeast. None of that was going to go bad in two days, and so today we took back all of that plus some hard cheeses that I had vacuum sealed - mostly Parmesan, Grana Padana, and Romano, but I had them in a lot of separate small packages. By the time we got finished putting food into the new fridge, I was not in the mood to go out, but I am fine with having my birthday dinner a day or two late. Thanks for all of the kind and thoughtful wishes - this has really raised my spirits on this birthday, which otherwise could have been somewhat depressing!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Right now my boys are out buying bagels and lox for breakfast. I knew you folks wouldn't forget so I checked in here ;-) Actually I am just sitting here contemplating if I am really 40 or if that has to wait as I was premature. Really if you look at my adjusted age I am not yet! Somehow I like the sound of forty though.

p.s. Annie I miss you to, I have a food blog and as my computer time is limited I don't come here much. Julian starts Kindergarten in the fall so I may have a little more time. btw, we are chicken farmers now with a flock of 3 (it was 4)

OMG, Robin, you have CHICKENS? I'll bet the boys are having a ball with that. As for losing one, I have to tell you that mortality in the chicken world pretty much a fact of life.

I just never remember that people have blogs. I check in here, answer my email and then get off the computer. Sigh.

I'm going to go check yours. Bagels and lox sound like a perfect birthday for 40. And the "baby" is already going to take over kindergarten. It just doesn't seem like it could be so...

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! It was a fabulous day in the end. Really close friends who moved 3.5 hours away last summer came up and then there was a small catered surprise party. I figured out the surprise shortly before the part but it was still fabulous. DH chose food really well even given my food snobbery and I did not have to plan or clean a thing.

When we got home Dh told me our friend was going to stay at our house with her 3 children, my 2 children and her dog while we went and stayed in their condo at a ski resort. The weather was gorgeous and even though I don't ski it was the best. We just enjoyed each other.

Annie, the chicken mortality was completely out fault as we did not close up their run one night and a hungry, we think fox, had a feast. The boys learned about the food chain a little better and the parents learned not to be so stupid and trusting. A fox in the city, who knew? That weekend we went to a local Easter egg thing and the boys told the person in a chicken suit to watch out for foxes.

Happy Birthday! (I'm not belated yet!) It sounds like you had a lovely day. And yes, I've seen foxes right here in our suburb, along with bobcats, hedgehogs and other things. Predators don't care where they can find a meal. (We set up the scarecrow today to fend off big blue herons and keep them from eating our fish.)
