A friend recently posted this question on FaceBook and it generated some interesting responses. It was "What 15 record albums have stayed with you?" The challenge was to list 15, in no particular order, in less than 10 minutes. So Gardenwebbers, here is your challenge! Mine included:

When we donated all the albums five years ago, not every one was replaced by a CD. I took a little longer than 10 minutes to try and remember which ones really stood out.

These are the ones I listened to over & over and still could today.

josh, I water the old fashioned way -- by hand using a watering wand. It's not so bad in the Spring after everything is planted but by late June when the plants get big it becomes a huge PITA. My sister watered the three weeks when I was gone and she wasn't a happy camper and was glad to rid herself of that task. By the end of August it took me an average of 90 minutes to completely water the garden each day and I estimated that on average I used 150 gallons per day. On heavy watering days I used 200 gallons and on light watering days I'd use 100 gallons. By late August I'd spend a minimum of one hour and a max of two hours with most days in between that. Now that we're in late September we're getting more rain and it has cooled so I'm not watering that much any more. This year was a lot worse for water because I'm using that pine bark mix in most of the containers and they drain very quickly requiring more water. The upside is that the plants did well and I had for the first time a tomato crop with decent yields and nice looking tomatoes. I still made mistakes via not fertilizing right and hope to do even better next year. I don't know why it took me so long to realize this but next year I'm installing a drip irrigation system. I've been doing google and found a couple of sites that seem to be decent. It does seem kind of complicated but there's all winter to figure this out. :-) heebiejeebie, the honeydew melons are in a tall wastepaper basket that I gleaned from the alley and made into a container. I estimate it's more like 10 to 15 gallons of container space but its narrow and tall. The honeydew melons were an experiment for me. I wanted to see how they would grow in a container that was narrow but deep. I put two plants in there and so far they've yielded 8 melons and the plants had tons of flowers and looked really healthy. I wasn't expecting much out of this but I think that having deep containers for the roots to grow down might have been better than a wider, shallower, larger volume container. It might have something to do with the Perched Water Table (or something like that) per Al's dissertation in that other thread. I like these deep narrow containers since they take up less space and allow the vines to cascade down the sides. I won't know until I dig them out if they became root bound but I suspect they did. The plants still look healthy and there are two honeydews still growing late September here in Chicago. People around here are always throwing out those tall plastic wastebaskets and I already have two more stored for next year. I'm thinking of trying cucumbers or cantelopes in those containers next year and see how those do.

"Lucy........I can esplain..." LOL Ok, the sub albums are done!! I think. For Now. All 470 photos are sorted into 15 albums under the Garden Junk Inspiration album. Tho to go from sub to sub, you have to go BACJ to the main GJ album where the list of the subs are. You with me so far? LOL. Also, you may still be doing some "hunting" for things since I used my creative license to put stuff where I thought it ought to go. Unfortunately many things could fit in any of several categories, so may not be in the ones YOU might be expecting. And I had to do a MISC album for things I'm not sure about, or have too few photos to set up another sub for them yet. Like all the old bikes and trikes and pot people, etc. So I hope this makes things a lot easier for all of us, and we owe a BIG Thank You to the lady who suggested I do this up right. LOL. There's a product called 'DiscWasher' that's been around for decades. Includes special fluid and a purpose-built brush with directional fibers for scooping out the grooves. Unfortunately DiscWasher is for vinyl that's just dusty and fingerprinted... to first get your sleeves unstuck, perhaps a gentle and careful steaming?

THANK YOU! This looks like something that would do it although I'm not understanding how the gadget plugs into the two ports at the back of the old Panasonic (perhaps it just needs another cord with the red and white plugs at each end). I also did more web searching and came up with the Ion u-Record Music Archiver at Think Geek I'm not sure how it works...as it too just seems to connect the computer with the old music outfit, but this one seems to need software installed and I'm wondering if it is for more complex stuff than I'm trying to do. Has anyone used this? As I said before, I'm not very computer savvy (I'm from the old LP era) and appreciate being able to do this without a lot of frills and hassles. Natal, I would have added Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, the Stones, and Fleetwood Mac if I had kept going. Actually, your entire list would work pretty well for me! :)

It would be interesting to see the difference in lists depending on birth year-1952 for me! Pesky, wish more would respond to this! Maybe it is just old rockers who go in for album lists-ha!

Depending on your age, you might have never listened to an album. I switched to tapes pretty early and I am 40.

I just did this for a friend on FB - here's my response to her request. Oh - and birth year is '54. That line about "the soundtrack of your life" is so true.

Karen - This is really tough - so many come to mind and unfortunately many only come 'partially' to mind! I can remember album covers but not the name, or artists but not the albums. And there are so many current albums that I love but don't know yet if they'll have staying power. But it's the actual album covers and the memories associated with those that I'm picking the most - here goes.

I was born in 1961, and grew up listening to everything under the sun, but my penchant has always been rock. I've never liked CSN&Y, and while I enjoyed James Taylor, Carol King, et al, I never collected that genre of music. If it was something my Dad could yell "TURN THAT D*MNED THING DOWN!!" then I listened to it...loudly. My brother and I had bedrooms at opposite ends of a long hallway and we seemed to compete with one another as to who played their music louder. And the funny thing was we had many of the same albums, so we'd play different songs from the same album just to make each other mad.

Of course, we mainly did this when Dad was at work...

I now have most of the 'albums' on CD, and soon, on my iPhone. The only vinyl I own now is my Dad's old collection...mainly Louis Prima, Sergio Mendez, and Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.

I loved anything and everything by HEART! The last time I saw Nancy and Ann they could still rock, in spite of being a few pounds heavier. ;o)
