My niece is trying out for American Idol today...

and I've never even heard her sing! This niece has grown up around me and I've heard from my BIL (her dad) that she can sing but I'm rather shocked she is trying out for AI. I just hope she isn't one of the try outs that everyone makes fun of... Sophie is adorable. I'm hoping her voice matches her looks and confidence. I know she was taking voice lessons for a short time but quit when it interfered with her social life.

So Max's bio cousin is on 'America's Got Talent' and now his other cousin is trying out for 'American Idol'. Unbelievable. I would have never guessed this one. I have to call Aimee. She won't believe this either!

Tell her good luck from "the decorating people". I would think that would be a V E R Y long day. Have you seen the turnouts for those tryouts?

You know, I don't think they said who got the top votes. I know at one point, they told someone they were in the bottom 3 but I can't remember who it was. Amanda is horrid, but there is a website called "vote for the worst" dot com that helped keep her and Danny there, and I think that's awful. It's the same place that kept Sanjaya going for so long. It's sickening to me that people can be so mean as to not only put people's pictures on a website and encourage people to vote because they are so bad, but to also kill the dreams of the ones who deserve to stay.

Teresa, at least 2 of the contestants this year have had record contracts (Michael Johns and Carly) and David A. won Star Search when he was 11 or 12. The rules are you can't have a record contract when you try out for AI. I thought it might not be fair either, but some of these kids are in their late 20's and it would be hard to be a good singer and not have had some success along the way. It's actually probably pretty hard to have had a contract at one time and then have to face the judges criticism every week. I think it'll work out fairly.

I've watched AI since its inception and IMO, this is the worse season of talent. Not sure why they put through that guy with the longish, curly hair who can't sing AT ALL. There were so many better than him. Don't remember his name. I'm really enjoyed Keith on the show, which I had my doubts how he would be, but, I like him in that capacity. I'm not a Nicki fan, but, most of the time I agree with her thoughts on the contestants performances/singing. She doesn't have a filter and maybe that's what I like about her. Mariah is a snooze for me, and Randy, well, he's just Randy. I hope these contestants get better, because as of now, they are ALL boring...IMO.

Your family are all beautiful, golddust :) I can't imagine doing that kind of audition -- the fear of being on the joke reel would be enough to stop me unless I was pretty darn (realistically, not in some sort of delusion) sure I'd be taken seriously. But even if you don't really have a huge chance, it would be a fun thing to do just for the experience if you could be sure you wouldn't be on the reel.

I must have missed the thread--Max's bio cousin is on America's Got Talent? Wow--what does he do? Could you direct me to the thread?

I know, Fly!!! I hope we're holding our breaths needlessly at this house. We've never heard her sing! No one in the family has ever heard her sing other than her Dad, Mom and siblings! Her dad says she "has the voice of an angel" but we all know about blinders... I think she will use a stage name, her first and middle name. If she does poorly and ends up on the joke reel, at least our last name will be spared. LOL!

Ashleigh Dejon is Max's biological cousin. Ashleigh and Michael are aerial acrobats. A quick search revealed this info on them. I have no idea if a repeat of their act is on youtube or anywhere else. Ashleigh is self taught.

Yes! Lots of good luck! Hope she makes it. If she does not,though, I'm hoping she will tell you about the process. I've always wondered how on earth they can audition...even if for only 1 min. each, all those people we see in the stadiums who are supposedly there to tryout. And...if they did, how on earth do they not find better talent amongst all that crowd...even in only one big city???

This is what I know about Ashleigh. She owns a house here and is renting it out right now to her cousin. It burned down on Christmas day, about 3 years ago. She rebuilt on the property. One room has a very tall ceiling, dedicated for her practice. Don't ask me how she taught herself... Her mom said she was self taught on Facebook.

Ashleigh will perform next on the 31st.

Yep. I'm not Italian but everyone else is. LOL! I married into an Italian family and we adopted Italians. (Ashleigh is Italian...) My mother in law is Italian and while my DH was raised in an Italian culture (making wine, etc.), his father was only 1/2 Italian. Hence, our 'Snell' last name.

Aimee isn't Italian either. She's Irish, German and English. I'm the German English part and her bio father is Irish.
