Help! I'm cooking a whole beef tenderloin

A friend is having a large party at her house and plans to serve little beef tenderloin sandwiches on little rolls. The one time I made a whole tenderloin, it was just about raw. The one I made before was from The Barefoot Contessa cookbook and, although the seasoning was fine, the meat just wasn't cooked.

Does anyone have a tried and true recipe how to make one that's medium to medium rare? I have a couple of meat thermometers and all I've been able to come up with is to put one in the thicker part of the tenderloin and one in the thinner one.

Thanks so much for any advice you can give me.
