My electric water heater- what's up?

Jeff

We have a 25 year old, 80 gallon, electric water heater. Ever since moving in to the house three years ago, it has worked without problems.

Two weeks ago, I woke up to a cold shower. The circuit breaker (double switch, 50A) didn't appear to be tripped, but I turned it off and back on. Within an hour or two, the hot water was back.

The same thing happened this morning. I was able to start it up again by turning the breaker off and on.

I think my WH is trying to tell me something. I just don't know what specifically that is. If any one has any thoughts or suggestions, please send them along.

It is my preference to keep the water heater in place, at least for now, but if I have to start replacing all sorts of parts, I might be able to be convinced to change the whole thing.

Thanks in advance for your help.
