The tank is being filled today (or already was filled). The burner is maybe 18" off the floor of the basement and the tank is maybe 10 feet away on the same floor. The pump is a Beckett Clean Cut pump that is ~4 years old. IÂm planning on opening the bleeder, turning the boiler back on then once I see no signs of air coming out the bleeder IÂll close the bleeder and then I should be all set. Hopefully the pump should have no problem pulling oil through the supply line coming out the top of the tank. If the burner shuts down, I can just hit the reset button again and if it locks out, I can hold the reset button for ~40 seconds to unlock it. Sound right?

Above ground on a slab with a curb to contain spills is the safest way to go if you can deal with the esthetic implications. A leaking underground tank can result in MAJOR expenses. With an above ground tank you have a chance of seeing the problem in time to avoid contaminating the soil. A down side is the need to use an additive to avoid jelling of the oil in very cold weather. The new double walled tanks are good and some seem to have good guarantees. They are designed to allow you to check the integrity of the inner tank, but they need to be routinely checked. If an underground tank leaks the DEC will be involved. This is not a fun experience. If esthetics is not important, why take the chance?

My Roth was $2500 installed (Philly suburb). There was someone selling a used tank on Craigslist and they said theirs was $2800. Another quote I got was ~$2400 but I chose to go with the other installer. Someone on here up in New England I think said they were quoted maybe $1800 for their install? I think the single wall tank would have been ~$300 less (or maybe it was $500, can't really remember since I wasn't going to get spend money for a single-wall tank). For me, it was a no-brainer to get the Roth.

I have installed a Roth 275 gallon oil tank a few years ago, and have had numerous problems with this tank especially when the tank gets below 100 gallons. I had a oil fired furnace and a Toyotomi on demand water heater which does not have it's own oil pump. Sometimes they would shut down. I just removed my oil fired furnace and replaced it with a high effiecent LP gas fired hot air furnace. Now I have no hot water, because the Toyotomi will not run, because the Roth tank will not gravity feed. I have repiped to only supply the Toyotomi water heater. And no luck trying to get the burner to run, because there is no oil to it. I don't want to have to install a seperate oil pump for this Toyotomi water heater. These Roth tanks are not good for all systems. Any help from others ?
