Sorry to hear that. I haven't watched it for a while Joan was one of my favorites. I'm glad you told us so it won't be such a shock.

I heard that Joan wasn't on anymore but didn't know the show was still on with new peeps. I liked Joan and DC was my favorite show on HGTV.

Joan was too giggly for me but I liked the designs she created.

Decorating cent was more like the hgtv shows that were on when hgtv really gained popularity. Now it's all big time decorating shows. Nothing for the common person. Nothing most of us would even want.

When I walk into someones home I like it when it is homey and inviting. Not stainless steel (or galvanized) and cold.

I think they should have some of everything.

I don't even bother to watch hgtv anymore.

15 years ago I wouldn't even change cable or dish companies unless they offered hgtv.

I used to watch it all day long too, but now it's all about buying homes and $35,000 renovations. And they should change the name to HTV because the "G" is almost entirely gone! I want my "G"arden shows!!! I don't care if a petunia is still just a petunia, I want to see one.

I agree that HGTV has really gone downhill; I used to also watch it all day, with the gardening shows and the realistic house makeovers. It's just bam, bam, we'll get this house ready to sell, etc., etc.

What on earth is going to happen when granite and stainless steel become the "70's avocado" - lol! Maybe Avocado will be cool again. Or maybe it already is? I have quit watching most HGTV.

I used to watch a lot of it too. LOVED LOVED LOVED the Carol Duval Christmas shows. Maybe that is why Christmas just doesn't seem like Christmas anymore - no Carol Duval crafts.....

I liked Joan also but the one I miss most is 'Room by Room'. I picked up so many basic deco skills from that show-it was well written & well presented for the 'average type bear!
My other bestest show I loved was 'The Painted House' on another channel, with Debbie Travis. What that woman could do with a can of paint!

Actually avocado was making a comeback but it's died off. So my avocado washer was back in style for a few years, not that I cared. I personally liked "coppertone", that dark brown.

Before Joan Steffend got the Decorating Cents job, she was a weekend newscaster in Minneapolis. She was one of my favorite newscasters. Good delivery, didn't put her opinions into the news, friendly, just a great talent. I was sad to see her leave. Haven't had cable for years so I didn't see any shows. I recorded a bunch of the DC shows before I dumped cable. At the time I was thinking about buying an older small house up north and thought many of those ideas would be great. But alas... not to work out.

I'm depressed..... :)

HGTV needs to visit Gardenweb's Home Decorating forum. It is so much more informative than any HGTV show.

I also liked Room by Room, and of course, decorating cents.

Now, it is decorating $$$$.$$ and higher. Just who can afford ten thousand and higher remodels?

Don't we remodel, cause we can't afford the expense of new all over???

I never warmed up to Joan Steffens. I thought she was nice enough, but in a fake, anchor person type of way. As far as HGTV goes, I seldom watch it now. Like many of you, there was a time that HGTV was the station I went to during what ever breaks I was taking during my day. It changed to someone elses idea of 'home and garden'. But it may be that I just grew out of it. How many different ways can you decopage a hat box or add a ribbon trim to a hand towel and, haven't we all figured out the best way to add a binding to a quilt? And...to be completly honest, has there EVER been a real, true need for sock monkeys in this world? Hummm.

I can't believe I forgot abot Room by Room loved it I guess that is why I stopped watching so much on HGTV too. All the quilting and craft shows are gone now too. I really like Christopher LLoyd I think he was on Discovery and there was a gal who had a popular show too a couple of years ag can't remember her name

minnie...are you thinking of Lynette Jennings? I like her show a lot. I learned a bunch of stuff from her but now I don't think I remember any of it. I also liked Christopher Lowell.

Thaat's who sooey. I thought she would never be off TV or Christopher I think Offfice Depot still sells a line of his office furniture, Thanks I did a google on old decorating shows but I couldn't find just a list of them it's very complicated.

I think DYI and Fine Living have picked up a few of the past HGTV shows. I liked Joan Steffends and DC. I used to think the Room by Room couple were really corny, but their rooms always turned out well. I noticed Joan Steffends isn't presenting the Dream Home this year either. Which, by the way, is a FANTASTIC home. My favorite so far.
I agree, there aren't enough gardening shows anymore. I used to love Gardening by the Yard. That guy was funny and always great tips.
I still watch HGTV but not at all like I used to. I watch designed to sell because they show simple tricks and solutions. Sometimes Design on a Dime, and I am hooked on House Hunters. Although I am beginning to think I have seen all the episodes. So many of the shows on (not just House Hunters)are three and four seasons old.

I get really annoyed when these "professionals" go into a house and tell the owners they have to replace the kitchen appliances - no matter how new - with SS. I personally prefer black appliances. They act like no one will buy a house with White appliances. How ridiculous.

The other thing that makes me cringe is when they go into a kitchen with beautiful stained wood cabinets and they tell the owner the cabinets look dated because they are stained. (Not old, beat-up or ugly.) They always want to paint them. I hate painted cabinets. The only way I would paint cabinets is if they were made of paint grade wood. If they really wanted to update the look they could just change the hardware. Simple and inexpensive makeover.

I don't miss Room by Room. Those 2 hosts were annoying. I was thrilled when Carol Duval was gone. Is House Hunters on 24/7? Sure seems like it.

I liked it better when they had more gardening shows, Paul James, Gardener's Journal, Gardener's Diary. I occasionally watch Rebecca's Garden, but that's not enough. I really did like Joan Steffens. I liked her ideas and things she designed/ came up with.

I used to watch HGTV a lot. Not now. It's all real estate, and right now who cares? Homes aren't selling, period. No matter how much you stage them. And I wonder where the "G" in HGTV went? To high-end yard remodels, that's where. No more common-sense or informative programs at all.

My PBS station runs GOOD garden programs on Saturdays, so that's where I get my garden fix.

Anyone remember these guys? They were The Furniture Guys, Men with Tool Belts, Furniture to Go, and maybe other show names. Linda
