Cupcake in a cone

Little man helped me make these, cupcakes in cones. We ate three, the other four got sent to our neighbors.

I cannot believe how cute these are!! And it solves the problem of messy fingers when eating a cupcake :)

I made those for my children, but haven't for my grandson's yet. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh, my gosh, Candy...your t'scape made me SMILE big-time & I am hearing Chubby Checker's "Let Twist Again" this morning! What a fun table! Your imagination ran wild in this one, lady! My first thought was, WOW! the napkins are sundaes! & so sweet with a cherry on top! Love the pink t'cloth, too & the layered white in the center. Those waffle cone plates are a steal $$$ & I love the choices of colors & textures in the stacked place settings. And the HOT PINK flatware & glasses....ooo, la, laa! And what an original centerpc! Hmmm. Even The Princess, who is the pickiest eater in the world, will eat carrot cupcakes. She even knows there are carrots in there and she still eats them. She won't eat pineapple though, and so I have to leave the pineapple out of the carrot cake. Georgysmom is right, they'd rather have candy, so buy a bag of M&Ms or Hershey's and make the kids happy. No Snickers or Reeses, though, there's that pesky peanut thing going on. Actually, cookies and cupcakes get too beaten up on the trip to school, unless you're going to deliver them personally. The Princess likes to make her own "trail mix" with raisins and M&Ms and chocolate Cheerios, no nuts, package them into little snack bags and it's ready to go. If there isn't a peanut butter issue, she also really likes to take the rice krispie treats made with peanut butter with the chocolate topping, although we've managed to get away with making them with Cocoa Krispies and peanut butter and pressing a few M&Ms on the top and so there isn't the problem of melting chocolate if it's hot. Both the grandkids also like to take those rice krispie treats, make them into balls and roll them in sprinkles, or cut the treats into shapes with cookie cutters. Annie

I hate those ball things. They're like biting into rocks. I vote sprinkles! For the cones, I think I'd either make a waffle cone or more likely just go with the regular sugar cone. It's actually closer to a real microphone than a chocolate color would be. Yes there's a few black microphones often with yellow windscreens but most professional mics are that "gunmetal" color, gray-like. And for another effect, I'd go one step farther and put some black licorice whips on the cones for a mic cord.

I think whipped buttercreams are better for piping... and I think adding about half shortening helps it whip up lighter... shortening not so bad now that it's trans fat free these days. if you whip it really well with a whisk beater attachment, it becomes lighter. I have learned how to make an Italian buttercream also which can also be yummy and pipes well, but is more time consuming..... it almost has too much of a butter flavor by itself, but is delish with certain cakes! cream cheese frosting is awesome, but I have a hard time getting it to become fluffy, so harder to pipe it so it looks nice for me...

Linda, you will have to fight his girlfriend for that. They've been together since pre-school, steady for almost 5 years! I wonder if any of his future girlfriends will last that long. LOL

Mary, those are very easy and fun to make. Just use a box of cake mix. If you use the whole box it will make 24 of cupcake cones. I used about a bit more than 1/4 box for my last batch.

Prepare cake mix according to instructions. Pour batter into each flat bottomed cone to just a bit less than 2/3 full. The first time I put too much batter into the cones and they all "exploded" LOL. Bake at cupcake temperature, on a cookie sheet, for a bit longer than what the box says. If the box says 20 minutes, I would go at least a couple of minutes longer. Mine took 25 minutes before the long skewer came out clean. Once the cupcakes are cooled, you can frost them with store bought or homemade frosting. We love sugar sprinkles and we used lots for decoration. My neighbor's 7 year old thought it was ice cream until he bit into the cake. Really funny!

I've made these, too. So cute! My only complaint is that the cake seemed to dry out from the cone. Did anyone else notice this? Or are grownups not supposed to eat them? ;)
