Some friends gave us a small homemade one on New Year's Eve. It did not have citron, which I can't stand. I finally threw it away as it started to dry out.

It would be torture for me to have to eat one, but I gave one to my dad because he likes them. I forgot to ask him if he's eaten it or not and if it was any good.

Nope, not this year. I have a recipe for one that uses dried fruits and Brazil nuts that Woody just loves but I didn't make it this year. No rum. lol

I gave my Kentucky Bourbon Fruitcake Cookies to folks for the holidays. Does that count? And they are gooooood :o)

My Mom has a recipe for a good one. I don't like dates, otherwise they're good. Full of nuts and dates. None of that dried fruit (LOL @ Jenni's comment). When they get dry, dump a little of Jack Daniels on it, and wrap it in a cheesecloth, and store in some Tupperware.

My DIL and the family have had some unresolved issues over the past couple of years,which have resulted in a strain on an otherwise close family.
This year I searched and found a jamacian rum fruitcake recipe(her favorite) and made it for her as a christmas gift.
She was so pleased and as a result,we have opened the lines of communication and are all working on getting rid of old resentments and misunderstandings.
Who says fruit cake isn't a good thing?
I'm so glad I made this decision"whatever it takes!"

BTW Okwriter...my DIL is from The BVI so therefore she grew up learning to love this type of cake around the holidays.

I give my parents one every year because they ask for it. They like the Sunshine Hollow fruitcakes (Lots of pecans!!). They'll get one every year as long as they continue to want them.

I bought myself a real tiny rectangle piece of fruitcake from my brother's grocery store after Christmas when it was on sale and it wasn't very good.

I love fruitcake but the closest I got to it this year was the plum pudding I had the other night.

Stores around here don't carry good fruitcake. Some organizations have cakes you can order but I am always too late and they are sold out.

Bummer, I didn't get one and I really like fruitcake. Thought about buying a Claxton brand at Walmart but changed my mind since I would have to eat it all by myself.
