In response to questions/comments: kudzu9: There are areas of the grout that are missing, and the remainder has turned yellow. I would like to replace the missing grout and whiten the yellowed. We hope to rent out the home, so I don't trust tenants to wipe down painted walls. I'm hoping to find a complementary alternative. benjesbride: Unfortunately, the reason I have little budget now is that most of the original plumbing has to be redone. The drains are all old cast iron, and have degraded...there are lead pipes too. So, since they are replacing them, I figure that now would be the time to relocate. Thank you for your advice on "embracing the retro" and your link! nosoccermom: I cant really remove the shower head, as its the only bath in the home. I LOVE your idea of glass, and will research it. As far as paint on the shower walls, as I said above to kudzu9, we are planning to rent the home out and I worry about tenants taking the time to do that sort of maintenance. I want to go with something I don't have to worry about them taking care of. cpartist: Another retro vote! I'm coming around :) The grout is yellowed, and missing in a few areas. I'm hoping there is a way to bring it back to white. I agree with you, and everyone else, about the grab bars, as well as the shower head. And so glad to get another grey vote! Yes, there are plenty of other options. First, I need a little more information. First, you say your existing subfloor is 3/4" oak planking, which I'm assuming is laying diagonal to the room. Now, can you see the joisting under the floor, and if so, can you see how far apart (on center) they are, and what the dimensions are-- how high, how thick, and what's the unsupported distance? If your joisting is sufficient, you may be able to go over the planking with 1/2" plywood, and either 1/8" thick Ditra, or 1/4" thick cement board, and you'll be fine. You've got all the "beef" you need with the planking. Problem is you need two layers over dimensional lumber because of the expansion and contraction of dimensional wood. So the 1/2" plywood will give you layer one and a little more strength to the floor, and the Ditra or cement board will give you layer #2, as well as a good bonding surface. IF the joisting is good to go.

Home Depot is the only place within two hours that sells the pre-fab, and the colors are horrible. I need three bathroom countertops, and the largest is 52". I should be able to find remnants, but I can't even find fabricators who have remnants. Nobody has a website and the fabricators don't advertise, at all. I found six places in Tulsa, but none of them have quartzite remnants. I can only find stone suppliers. I will make a list of suppliers this weekend, and call them on Monday. Maybe they have a list of fabricators near me. Even Google maps didn't have anyone listed near me. They didn't have the two fabricators that are a half hour away from me. What is your opinion on glossy vs honed in a bathroom. My kitchen has leathered Sea Pearl quartzite, and I love it. I prefer matte colors usually, but I doubt I would like leathered bathroom countertops.
