smart strand carpeting, for real? please vote!
Comments (4)Density means very little. Twist as boxer say is what counts. A high density carpet is only a recipe for wear. The carpet cannot lay on its side, squats down and the color (reflection) changes appearance and looks matted. I can tell you that smartstrand makes carpets in more looks that are not friezes than any other type. I can also tell you that I really didnt buy into the hype at first, but we have sold it for 3 years. Customers that bought smartstrand at the same time as other non smartstrand are raving about the smartstrand from the few that we get to see. I have a claim right now on a carpet that is 12 month old....and we installed a smartstrand in a higher traffic area 1 year before the 12 month old piece. The customer says..I want this carpet replaced with a product that wears like my older carpet. The older carpet was smartstrand. It was a very non dense product installed in a dining room. It had dining room chairs on it and had a very defined traffic walkway. The carpet looked brand new. I was amazed and that was the last straw. I immediately called a meeting at our store and shared it with my staff. Those are the facts and I no longer feel it is hype. But forget the density thing as that is the old school thought before the twist was able to be heat set like it is today. High Density in residential today? I run from it personally. Good Luck....See MoreStainmaster vs. SmartStrand
Comments (9)@stir_fryi - If you have pets and are looking for carpet in high traffic areas, then SmartStrand will prove to be the perfect fit. It is more durable and stain resistant than Nylon, and the stain protection is engineered in so that it never wears off! SmartStrand carpets are not experiencing any vacuum issues, but if you select a premium soft carpet such as SmartStrand Silk then you will want to pair the perfect vacuum with it. Dyson vacuums are not Carpet & Rug Institute approved, so I would always recommend purchasing a model that is CRI approved. In the grand scheme of things, you don't want to install a gorgeous carpet and use an ill-suited vacuum to maintain it. If you have a premium soft carpet, you want to find a vacuum that has: -Beater bar with adjustable height -Wide wheels (this will keep the vacuum higher & more flexible) Here are some great models to check out: Standard Upright Vacuum: Hoover UH70120 Hoover UH70205 Hoover U5780-950 Dirt Devil UD70115 Eureka AS5203A Lightweight/No Depth Adjustment: Oreck Magnesium Oreck Magnesium RS Hoover Nano UH20020W Canister Vacuum: Hoover Canister S3865 Oreck Quest Pro...See MoreTrying to pick carpet...

Comments (13)I'm sorry if anyone thought my link was biased. I found that it gave a very upfront comparison of the 2 carpets' performance under various circumstances that may occur in any household. Additionally, Floortech gave multiple pros and cons for BOTH carpets--not just positives for 1 of them--and included warranty info. Bichonlover is correct in his statement on why Floortech had "changed his mind" on the Smartstrand based on postings here on GW. While I do not have both carpets in my home--just the Smartstrand--that's all I can comment on firsthand. Our carpet dealer did show us Shaw's competitive carpet to the Smartstrand and my preference was still for Smartstrand based on the softness factor as well as the stain properties being in the fiber vs. being applied like Shaw's. In the interest of fairness, I have linked a search of GW using key words 'Floortech Smartstrand Shaw' for anyone who is interested. Here is a link that might be useful: GW Search Results 'Floortech Smartstrand Shaw'...See Morerbfranklin
