I love Owen Wilson. He is so funny. While I am not a fan of most comedies, he was hilarious, and the movie as a whole was too, in Meet the Parents. But my favorite OW movie is a drama, Behind Enemy Lines. He went off in a different direction after that but I like him in a serious mode.
I'll look for Midnight in Paris.

Dad and I are actually going to a real movie theater movie tomorrow: Harry Potter in 3d. I asked him tonight if he would go with me and he got a little excited at the idea, particularly the 3d part. I am so looking forward to his reaction to the 3d part. He's never seen one before. But I'm also nervous about him using a walker and maneuvering the theater though we'll be tethered.

I loved Midnight in Paris, and was so pleased that I wasn't spoiled for the "twist" in this movie. I was totally surprised and found it so enjoyable.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new Harry Potter movie, which I am going to see at an IMax theater when I visit my daughter in L.A., and two books that I've read recently are coming out as movies this summer: Sarah's Key, about French complicity with Nazis during WWII, and a French girl who ends up in a concentration camp, and One Day, which was a bit of a tear jerker, and stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturges.

Next week I think "Limitless" is coming out on DVD. This is a must see, a real thriller.

If you see Midnight in Paris don't read about it first. I was totally clueless walking into the theater and that's as it should be.

Rented The Lincoln Lawyer tonight. Nothing earth-shattering, but enjoyable entertainment.

Limitless is a cool movie. Not the norm, but not so much you don't enjoy.

We're big on romantic comedies and comedies as long as they are not too raunchy. ;D

Saw Horrible Bosses two weeks ago - funny movie.

I'd much rather order my movies off Netflix than go to the theater, so we don't get to see the new releases as soon as we'd like. These are a few of the ones we've watched recently:
~ "Rango" . . . with Johnny Depp. We were actually disappointed in it. We thought that it was funny in places, but overall not so good.
~ "Lincoln Lawyer" . . . enjoyable.
~ "The Adjustment Bureau" . . .good with lots of action and a fascinating premise
~ "True Grit". . . one of the best movies we've seen in a long time. I can see why Jeff Bridges won best actor for this role!
~ "I Am Number Four" . . . we all really enjoyed this movie. It's a sci-fi action movie
~ "The Company Men" . . . this was a very good movie, filled with great, well-known actors
~ "Walk The Line" . . . not a new release, but we watched it this past Friday night and LOVED it! The story of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon were both fabulous in this.

Lynn, True Grit was excellent, but Jeff Bridges was only nominated for an Oscar ... Colin Firth won it for The King's Speech ... another phenomenal movie.

Jeff won it in 2010 for Crazy Heart.

I liked "Midnight in Paris" a lot, too, but I think Woody Allen directed Owen Wilson to play Woody Allen rather than the character. That bugged me. Otherwise, it was wonderful.

Also saw Harry Potter. It was okay. I think I am a little tired of those, but it was enjoyable.

Of course, had to see the new Pirate movie-if it has Johnny Depp, I am there. ;)

I am actually tempted to go see "Cowboys and Aliens" when it comes out. Good cast and might be fun.

I finally got around to watching "Secretariat" last night. One of the best feel good movies in ages!

Our almost new DVD player isn't working in the LR, so we have to either buy PPV on DTV or wait until the good movies come out on Starz or HBO.

Allison - another kindred spirit and Jason Bateman fan. His characters are all very similar, but he does it so well.

OMG, Natal, that's right . . . thanks! I swear my memory is getting bad lately! We loved Jeff Bridges in "Crazy Heart" and that's why we were looking forward to seeing him in "True Grit". But, now that you've mentioned the movie, we really enjoyed "The King's Speech", too.

True Grit and The King's Speech were great movies. The Black Swan is good, but odd. If you know that going in, you're okay. lol

We recently saw Super 8. It was good, not great. We also saw Tree of Life. It was a beautiful movie.

What about Cowboys and Aliens? I'm kind of mixed on that...not sure if it's something that would be worth seeing, but then, it's got some A list celebs in it, so maybe it'll be good.

Highly recommend True Grit, if you haven't seen it. Other than that, we've not seen a lot of new films lately. We're on an old movie kick...just watched Blazing Saddles again, and The Godfather & Scarface were others. But we're ready for some 'light' fare. DH doesn't like 'esoteric' films, but he does enjoy 'chick flicks' (especially Sandra Bullock). I don't think Black Swan is on our radar, but from what you've all recommended, Midnight in Paris might be do-able.

Rango is really bizarre. the only thing I found funny was the Fear and Loathing scene. :)

I am so behind on TV shows that I don't ever seem to find time for movies. I still haven't finished the latest season of Desperate Housewives and Bones; watched any of the current seasons for NCIS, Dexter and the mentalist; and have not seen any of the New Doctor on Dr Who (is the second of his seasons out yet?) Or watched the newest Torchwood. they are all on my list. ALmost finished with Season 7 of desperate housewives. It really is the most ridiculous show and I love it. I just caught up on about 3 seasons and it didn't hurt that John Barrowman was in it for a few episodes. He is so yummy. :)

FYI: Sorry to say,if you loved Snowflower and the Secret Fan you will not love the movie...very disappointing, to me.

I never seem to like the movies they make from books I have read. I think it is because I have imagined/pictured things a certain way in my mind, and I end up being disappointed. I did like the Swedish version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I haven't seen the others in the series yet.

I skipped Water for Elephants and will probably skip Snowflower and the Secret Fan and The Help for the reason I mentioned above. I am currently reading My Korean Deli, and last night was thinking they will probably be making a movie out of it, too. Good read, BTW.

The Water for Elephants movie was a big disappointment for me - and I wasn't expecting much! Loved the book, but the lead actors in the movie had no chemistry together. Too much acting via soulful looks. And definitely not enough emphasis on Rosie the elephant. Though Christoph Waltz did do a good job as a sadistic b@stard.

I enjoyed the Harry Potter movie, but should have seen it in a normal theater. The 3D was distracting.

I just saw Cowboys and Aliens. It was disappointing considering how cool the premise was. But if you want some action scenes without much plot and some nice scenery (Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford), then give it a try. It works on that level.

I made the mistake of trying to watch Bridemaids. OMG, what a depressing, boring, crude, horrible movie. The critics loved it. Tell me, when did rude and crude become fresh and appealing? I keep reading that people thought it was hilarious. Believe me, there was very little laughter in the theater where I saw it.

Thank you forhgtv! I felt the same way about Bridesmaids. Everyone else who's seen it seems to think its hilarious. I just didn't get it.

Covingtoncat, Glad I'm not alone. I admit that I didn't think The Hangover was funny either, but it wasn't as horrible as Bridesmaids.

forhgtv, I feel the same anticipation for Cowboys and Aliens that I had for Sherlock Holmes- couldn't wait to see it. I think I will probably have the same disappointment. I've given up on trusting movie trailers and at least learned to wait 'til it hits redbox.

Beez, when I saw that Cowboys and Aliens had about a dozen screenwriters (I'm exaggerating a bit), I should have gotten my first clue that the story wasn't going to wow me.

At this point, DH and I are looking forward to the Planet of the Apes movie and...DD and I are looking forward to...yes, the GLEE movie! I'm going to take DD and a friend and I'll sit somewhere else in the theatre LOL...

(also looking forward to seeing The Help on DVD or on-demand--not one that needs to be seen in a theatre, IMO)

Has anyone seen "Incendies"? It is only playing in one theater here in the DC area, but I think we are going to go see it next week.

We did see "Cowboys..." Parts are fun and we did get popcorn which always makes a movie worthwhile-ha-, but it is a bit of a mishmash. Guess all those screenwriters neglected to collaborate-maybe each wrote a scene and then they just went strung them together! It included bits from every cowboy or alien movie you've ever seen. One scene was also lifted directly from the "Lord of the Rings" film.
