Please help -Tung Oil vs. Polyurethane on Pine Floor

User

We decided to finish a family room over the 3 bay garage of our new home. This wasn't in the original budget, but since we had the sheetrock crew on site, we decided to do it now rather than deal with the mess when the rest of the house was furnished. To help keep the cost down and not hold up other subs, DH and I are going to seal the floor ourselves over this long weekend.

Our main floor areas are wide plank pine and are stained and finished with tung oil. This floor is yellow pine and we are leaving it natural (no stain) and our GC got a recommendation from his floor guy that we use a polyurerathane finish on it.

We found applying the tung oil to the other floors to be easy and we are pleased with the look. Are there any of you with experience finishing floors who can weigh in on why to choose poly over tung oil?

Thanks for your help and opinions -
