I got a surcie...from Stacie (girlsingarden).

Stacie, these are sooooo sweet. I don't think I deserved this at all. I can't believe that you sent tomething so special to me. A lovely handmade apron (she must have read where I can never have enough aprons). Chocolate bars in cute Easter wrappings, my own handmade tea towel with my name on it, and two adorable little Easter candy dishes...she could not have know that one of my only two Easter dishes got broken (well, it didn't get broken, my little 2yo DGD broke it).

Stacie, these are all adorable. I can't thank you enough.

I just read this morning that you wondered if someone would get your second surcie...never dreaming that less than an hour lady my mai carrier would bring it up to my door!

Awww Sherry, what a lovely surcie from Stacie! I hope it cheered you and made you feel better. Stacie, you are so talented with a needle and thread, the apron and tea towel are beautiful! I especially love the cabbage leaf plate with the bunny on it. It looks like majolica.

Sherry, now you must share the chocolate with the grandchildren:-) An extremely thoughtful gesture, Stacie. Enjoy it all Sherry!

After having most of my plastic Christmas balls and lights eaten by squirrels from my outdoor Christmas tree I can say that they will eat anything. Oh, they also chew clumps out of my hydrangeas and caragana trees. They also ate a piece of one of my plastic solar lights that I have on a fence, many tulips bulbs and even hyacinth bulbs even though they are supposed to hate them. Last Summer they ate 18 unopened buds from my rose plants and dug out a lily plant, ate the bulb and then left with the whole plant (!!!). I have security cameras around my place and I saw that they were the ones who ate them. I'm in Canada zone 4b. They didn't die after eating all that as I can still see them around. Last year I tried many things to repel them that I found online, from cayenne pepper powder, moth balls (they ate some of them!), ground coffee to even urine and nothing helped. This year I'm trying something that I came up with on my own, which is powder garlic. It's been working so far. I already saw some of them sniffing it and leaving without causing any damages.

Oh thank you so very much Patricia for all the work of sorting. I figured it would come today so I sat in front of the window watching for the mailman and when I saw a "package" being put in the box, I ran out to the road as fast as I could and almost sliped in the snow. I was so excited and immediately started to go through it. This was better than a seed catalog and I didn't have to order them. Thank you to everyone who sent in seeds also because without all of you sending we wouldn't have the assortment that we received. All I can say, is a "BIG" thank you to all of you and especially to Patricia for sorting. May all our gardens be beautiful this year! Ellie

Freestanding ranges - built-in backsplash - a dated look?

I've been researching stoves/ranges and am heavily drawn to the slide-in options because they look built in and aren't that much more money. I just think getting rid of that backsplashy thing on the stove is a much nicer, cleaner look. And, I love the idea of eliminating spills between the sides of the stove and counter top. Conversely, though, the other look I love (which is a heckuva lot more money) is the pro range with the over-sized stainless backsplash and high shelf, which is a really integrated look with the fan hood on top. It's just probably much more money than I can justify. I've been thinking a lot about what matters to me most in a range and cleanability at very near the top of that list. I'm tired of cleaning grates, drip pans, burners, stovetops, etc, etc, etc. I find stoves a pain in the bum to clean. For that reason, I'm even considering switching away from gas to a smooth-top. The ones I am seeing don't have that backsplash built-in, either.

Now that's a cute idea, to have a hand towel button to the apron! I have a feeling I know what some of my girlfriends are going to get as gifts!

I make my own aprons, and often use bias tape, but forgot all about rick rack and how cute it is.

What a wonderful package to get in the mail!

Sherry, you don't fool me at all, you KNOW you'd give those grandbabies ALL the chocolate, except they don't like the dark stuff. I'm right, I know it. LOL

Those easter dishes are really cute and the apron will always be useful and the chocolate, well, you can never go wrong with chocolate.

Thank you for answering my question about the surcie. I tried to thank you before this but I forgot where I posted it. I went all through the cooking forum and the recipe one and didn't see it. I thought I would find it there because I am making my own bread now and was getting good advice pertaining to that on those forums. I feel when someone is kind enough to answer a question for you, you should convey your thanks as soon as possible. Again thank you for being so kind. Vique.

Oh, what an adorable surprise! How sweet to make Sherry her own towel and apron, and those Easter dishes are so fun! As for the chocolate, I am surprised it made it in the photo still intact! If it was mine it wouldn't have! LOL

Vique, of course you are right, and how nice of you to search and come back to thank Teresa. BTW, since I went to the bread camp that Teresa taught last summer, I've been reading everything I can here about bread also. I received loads of help.
