I had mine resized but I don't remember what it costs.I don't think it was very much. Mine's held up good and it's been about 10 yrs.

Resizing a ring to be a little larger is extremely easy. The jeweler puts the ring onto one of those long, tapered ring sizer things, and gently taps the shank with a special padded hammer. Doesn't take long and shouldn't cost much at all.

Resizing it smaller involves cutting a piece out of the shank and then putting the cuts ends together so that you can't even tell it's been cut. Much more labor intensive and costs more.

I have had rings sized up and down. We sized some rings smaller that were her great grandmother's for our DD. She is tiny, and great grandma was not. I too have had my rings made larger, including when we first bought them.

I gave Lauren one of my old rings, one I bought when I was in my early 20s, small diamond in Black Hills Gold. She can only wear it on per pinky finger right now and she's only 11! I may get it resized for her so she can wear it on another finger.

I've had it done but it was so long ago that I can't remember how much it cost. :-) I go directly to the jeweler that all of the jewelry stores send their stuff to, so it wasn't a lot of money.

I've had rings resized several times.

Only solid bands (no stones) can be 'stretched'--and that can only be done for a small adjustment, and I've been told it can only be done once because it weakens the metal. Otherwise, the ring will be cut and a little metal taken out--if it needs to be smaller; or cut and some gold added to the shank if it needs to be enlarged.

I had a ruby solitaire ring resized for my dd about 2 years ago. It had to be enlarged a couple of sizes (it was her teeny-tiny great grandmother's ring originally). If I recall correctly it was in the $25-30 range.

It's not expensive, and given what you've described, it would be well worth looking into. Of course, if you're talking about a wedding ring that has a design all the way around, it might not be feasible. But your best bet is to go to a good, local jeweler who has a long-established business and a good reputation. I'm lucky that we have one in our neighborhood who I feel comfortable trusting with my heirloom jewelry. He's not just technically good, and trustworthy, but he really knows jewelry and can tell me all sorts of interesting things about old jewelry that has come down through the family.

Stephanie, the cost is dependant on how many sizes it needs to go up and what karat the gold is. Last I worked at the jewelry store was Saturday and it was $828/oz. As it climbs so does goldwork. For 14K usually figure about $20-30 for one size up, then add $8-10 per size, at least here in our area. Some rings cannot be sized without showing, designs on the band or if it is two tone. It can be done but the solder will show. Some stores have an instore goldsmith, some may need to send it out. Either way right now you can expect a bit of a wait, we are swamped with resizings from items sold over the holidays. If you wait a few weeks you might get faster service.

Yes I have, and like you I waited a LONG time. I was worried about the cost, and the durability. Mine had to be made smaller.

When we picked out my wedding ring I was hot, nervous and my fingers were kinda big, cause of the warmth. Later on, every winter my rings were to loose, and I was worried about losing them. In fact, I didn't wear them several winters in a row. When I finally had them resized, I started wearing them ALL the time. I don't remember the cost, but it was so worth it to wear it always.

You can not see where mine was done, LOL, but then of course, my band had to be fixed twice now, cause it wore so thin. That was more expensive, but still, what's the ring worth if you can't/won't wear it?

I'd say, go ahead and get it done, but aim for before Valentines Day, cause then the jewelers are busy again. :)

My DH just had his ring made 2 sizes larger. Due to Dupetrons syndrome and the scar tissue from a couple of surgeries, his fingers are quite large. That cost him $150. The last time I had a ring resized was about 10 years ago and cost around $20.

Had my high school dinner ring resized, bout 6 months ago. Sized up for $35.

I just had two rings re-sized during the summer, they each came up 1-1/2 sizes and ran me $25 each.

I've had my ring resized. I believe it was done for free at the place my husband got the ring.

I had my original wedding ring with diamonds resized, as well as the gold band we'd replaced it with and my mom's mother's ring with 7 stones. The local jeweler charged $100 for all 3, which I thought was a good price.

I just had my (plain) wedding band sized up one-half size about a month ago. It cost $30 at my nearby department store and took only a few days.

I should probably get my engagement ring and ring wrap upsized too, but I can still just barely get them off. (I wear all three on my ring finger.) But I already have a problem with those two slipping around, and I think if they were larger that would happen more often. And that really bugs me!

I just a month ago had a ring resized to fit my middle finger it was $65 , it is white gold and because of that they have to do some other fancy thing to make it white gold so it cost a bit more.

Take it in and get an estimate, I went to a one day place once for an estimate and they are so much higher. I did not wear my wedding band for almost two years, it is a custom design that the jeweler would have to copy the design and make his own mold and I was afraid of the price~~I went to WW's lost weight and now I can wear it:)

I had my wedding rings sized bigger. I went to one place and they wanted to keep them for a couple of weeks. No way. I went to a place at the mall that does jewerely repair and he sized them in one afternoon and you can't even tell. I don't remember the price, though.

I actually couldn't remove them and went to a firestation. A fireman cut them off for free.

Thank you. They are white gold bands w/diamond solitaire. So from your experiences, I'm wondering why I didn't have it done a long time ago! ;o) I will have it done in the next couple weeks. (Soon as the kids go back to school and simple errands are simple again.)

We had to have my husband's wedding band made larger. It wasn't very expensive.
I have a ring that needed to be smaller and I just bought a ring guard for it. That way, if you need it larger again, you can take ther ring guard off or make it any size you want.

We bought a really nice anniversary ring that I had to have it cut down. I think it was $60. I had an appointment ahead of time, so I left the ring at the jewelers, went shopping, and came back in 2 hours. Done.

I just had my engagement ring sized up about a 1/2 size and it cost over $100. I guess it all depends on the jeweler. They did a good job but this shop sent it out to be done. Seems a lot of jewelry stores don't do their own sizing these days...or at least that's what I found in my area. If you find a store that does it in house then I'm sure it would be a better deal.

My gold wedding band shrunk ;0) and had it resized many years ago. I don't recall that it cost much and turned out perfect.
