open the flue fully, you want the CO to vent out properly.

I put a clamp on the damper so in can not be closed. the clamp will hold it open about 1 and 1/2 in. That should be enough for most fire places. If you go wide open you will not get as much heat out of it. later paulbm

Thanks paulbm...I'm getting conflicting answers and also asked this question at a different forum and got all sorts of answers mostly by people that had no idea what I was talking about...HAHAHA! Anyway, luckily my damper has nifty little notches in it that open it to different widths. All my old wood burning fireplaces just opened up or closed up, no notches. I was also thinking that if it was opened too much, there wouldn't be much heat, just didn't want CO to build up in the house though but I have a CO detector.

If anyone is still reading this, another question came up. Since it has the glass door set up, I've read to open the doors when using gas logs but this has a blower on it...do you still open the doors with a blower...seems like there wouldn't be much heat blowing out if you opened up the doors?

if you open the doors and you have the damper open too much then all your heat will go up the stack. do you have air shutters above and below your doors that slide open, if so open them when you want too use it, and leave the glass doors closed. later paul
