This will be the first APO package I've ever sent and I need some ideas on what to send to my son who's serving in the Army there now. I've done some online research and have found that the best way to send things is using the USPS's largest prepaid box. I know that I have to pad it with bubble wrap or newspapers; have to fill out the custom's form #PS2976-A. I've found out what I can't send: any pork products, alcohol or pornographic/nude materials . . . not that I'd ever do that!!
I asked DS what he wanted and he gave me this short list:
*chapsticks
*lotion
*deodorant
*gum
*Jolly Rancher candies
*paperback books
*a specific dvd movie
** he asked for Maxim magazines, but I'm thinking they might be considered under the "nude restriction" and don't want to waste my money if they're just going to take it out of the box before he gets it . . . if I'd even have enough nerve to buy one ;^D
DH, who served in Vietnam, said not to send him too many things that he'll need to eventually ship back. But, do you have any ideas or experience in what soldiers need and can really use while serving in Afghanistan or Iraq now?
I'd like to send this box out fairly soon.
Many thanks for any and all information and ideas!
Lynn
