I keep dipping into my leftover Cioppino to fish out a lump of crab or scallop, but I don't guess that's really dangerous.

However, there is that leftover half of a crusty baguette, a toaster and some nice butter...rot, I was studiously forgetting about them...

Carrot cake!

Dark chocolate chip raspberry cookies, apple pie, and butter cookies. Now I'm hungry! Why is it that the leftover fruit salad is not as tempting?

I hope we can finish the leftover German Potato Salad for dinner tonight. I've had two helpings today along with more ham....

Oh I thought you meant leftovers that were dangerous to eat because they had been leftover way to long. LOL!

One of the reasons I try not to have leftovers is because I put them in the fridge and forget all about them.

Ann -- I thought the same thing. I am the queen of dangerous leftovers. My son has learned to check expiration dates and give food a good sniff.

As far as calorically dangerous, my friend gave me a gorgeous fruit tart as a thank you for helping with her daughter's baby shower. I can't stay away from it. I have decided to just have a giant piece for dinner and skip everything else.

We have two servings of Ann T's Bread and Butter Pudding with caramel sauce left. So far, I haven't touched it, but it sure is tempting.

Peeps, cadbury chocolate eggs, poor quality chocolate bunnies...We had brunch at our club which for some reason serves blintzes, lox, capers, and onions-but no bagels! I always have to ask for a bagel.The rest of the brunch was scrumptious and I exercised considerable restraint.

Birthday cake! Outrageously rich and decadent. How 4 people could finish half a cake after dinner is beyond me, but we obviously did because that's all that remained to take home from my dinner out. I did say the restaurant was first and still is, a bakery, right? Well this little 8-inch honey is a mouse-layer cake. Fortunately, in my wine-stupor, I told Arthur to put the box right into the freezer.

Yesterday, I cut it into individual servings and rewrapped and refroze them but only after licking the cardboard and stealing shall we say a good size hunk. Yum. Now I'm in NY and it's in CT...so danger lurks in the country, awaiting my return.

I read dangerous the same way Ann did. I have 6 leftover deviled eggs, they are dangerous both ways! Not to worry, I have decided to be safe and devour them all before the day is done!

I'm still grinning over Bubbe's mouse layer cake. How many mice does it take to make layers, anyway? (grin)

Oh yeah, I do have that three layer chocolate cake with ganache filling. Sigh. The rest of the leftovers I sent home with Amanda, and all the Easter candy, but she wouldn't take the cake, she said the kids had enough sugar available to them already.....

Well, Shaun, I made the artery-clogging brussel sprouts you posted a couple days ago. They wre great. However, there are quite a few left over. And I have vowed to get back on the Weight Watcher program. It is killing me not to be able to eat those perfectly healthy brussel sprouts.
I left all the pies and cheesecakes that I baked for Easter at my DSIL's house so I would not be tempted.
Ah, but those wonderful brussel sprouts...I want them soooo bad. Especially knowing DH is not going to eat them.

Oh yes I supposed my subject could have been taken both ways. But I did mean dangerous as in fattening goodies!!

I have 3/4 of the lemon cream cheese pie, 3/4 of a cherry cheesecake(came with our guests), 1 1/2 8" pans of flourless chocolate cake...A bowl of lightly sweetend whip cream..lots of strawberries and some caramel dip leftover..
The chocolate cake will be cut up and go in the freezer for a trifle down the road...The other things..well...I guess we either eat or throw away...I hate throwing things away!!

oh and a pint of AnnT's caramel sauce...That is heaven!!!

I don't have either in the house right now, but my two downfalls are brownies and rice krispie treats. Either one in the house has me constantly in the kitchen stealing "just a sliver" more until the whole pan is gone!!

Ladies and gentlemen, the Red Velvet Cake has left the building. Nearly. I made it (jokingly called it the Blood of the Lamb of God cake for Easter), brought it to friends, split the leftovers, and came back with a big hunk. The diet made allowances for it yesterday but not today. Darn. I'm hoping Vicki has finished it by now.

By the way, I used the Paula Deen recipe for the cake and the white frosting (not the cream cheese one, the cooked milk/flour and butter/sugar one) posted on the Red Velvet thread. Woo dogies... it was good.

I froze my leftover caramel sauce and 2 big pieces of the sticky date pudding.

Well now I found the Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs. OMG those are dreadful! NOT.

Paula Deen..the Godess of diets. LOL.....does she ever make anything moderately low fat?? Nay, nay...perhaps that's why she is always smiling and laughing.

Mouse cake indeed.......I am chortling big time...let's amend that to mousse...what a little "s" can do for a story. LOL.

The girls got so much candy for Easter and my mom and mil sent all the extras home with me. But most of the unopened candy will be saved to make May Day baskets. Does anyone else still make May day baskets. I always have to make them for my neighbors and now that Rhiannon is in school I will make them for her class and teacher:)

Oh my-My peanut butter pie and a pumpkin roll and some malted milk ball eggs. Should move them to the basement freezer... A guest brought some cupcakes (nothing special) and I sent them back with her. I think it was the mexican food I ate yesterday though that is putting on the pounds-all that salt seems to just cling on.

I made vinarterte this weekend (from the Icelandic cookbook that I received in the last CF swap). I had no idea what I was letting myself in for.

Supposedly it gets better the longer it sits but there's no way it's even going to make it until the end of the week. OMG it is so GOOD! It's cake sized, thin layers of cookies with rhubarb preserves between each layer and I can't stay out of it. With my husband's help it should be gone by tonight. But it was so easy that I'm afraid I'm going to have to make it again, just to see how it tastes with apricot preserves.

Good thing I'm at work & it's at home!

for breakfast this morning, i finished the last piece of italian rice pie. i've forced myself to ration it out. thank God it's gone.

there's still a small piece of ham left, but i have plans for it later today and i finished the sweet potatoes last night for dinner.

my big problem this year was valentine's day candy. i was in a walgreen's a week or so after VD and all those heart boxes were 75% off. so me and russell stover have been meeting regularly since.

Living alone I never have anything yummy in the house because it actually goes bad before I can eat it all. My leftovers are of the questionable expiration date type. Don't worry, I don't serve this stuff to friends! My best friend always asks me "How long has this been in the fridge" before he will ever eat anything at my house! :) So far I have never gotten sick, knock wood. My constitution must be used to it.

So for me, it is scary coleslaw. It's very colorful, made with purple cabbage that has turned everything pink. I don't know whether to eat it, throw it out, or wait a little longer and call it kimchee.

I keep one box of Hob Nobs cookies in the house as the one and only "dangerous" item, and allow myself no more than two of them at a time with a cup of coffee sometimes in the late afternoon.

But referring to the "other" kind of dangerous....(leftovers)....I have had to sometimes go back to the WFD thread to find out what day I made something to see if a bit of leftover was still fresh enough to use LOL!

I invited my Mom's next door neighbor for Easter because she didn't have anywhere to go and she brought me a jar of her plum jelly on Sunday and then Tuesday she brought over a homemade coconut cream pie.

Need I say more, dangerous and delicious!

I had forgotten about my frozen leftover caramel sauce (thanks Ann T) from Easter, but seeing this post prompted me to go see how hard it was, I scraped some with a spoon, it's like a soft toffee consistence. I had a few teaspoons and closed the lid, so yummy. Too dangerous, specially at 9 p.m.

I agree Nina -- post that vinaterte recipe -- I've got WAY WAY WAY too much rhubarb that will be coming up soon! :-)

My husband's mother made him those jello eggs, just jello shaped like an egg, she uses a mould for it.

Anyway he put them all into a zip lock bag and the other night he was eating some, left the bag on the coffee table and we went to bed. The next day I noticed them laying there and told my son that they were probably no good. Well he put them in the fridge again. I saw them in the fridge, took them out and put them in the garbage. Hubs came along, took them OUT of the garbage and is still eating them.

YUCK!

But in all fairness, they were still in the ziplock bag, right on top of the garbage, nothing yucky was in there. BUT still, they sat out all night.

Does jello go bad if it's left out?

Shaun- How funny, I just made those Jello eggs (jeggs) this weekend. I don't think that Jello can go bad. It's just water & a bunch of chemicals.

I'll gladly share the vinarterta recipe as written, along with my slipshod (and probably inaccurrate) conversions from grams to ounces. I'll give it it's very own thread tomorrow, including the rhubarb preserves recipe (rhubarb & sugar...my God, who knew it could be so addicting?!).

I want a rhubarb patch!
