'strange noise'

I caught a blip on the tv news as I was walking thru the living room. Something about strange noises in Florida (?). It was iguanas falling out of trees it was so cold. What I didn't catch is if they were native animals or the kind people let go when they grew too big. And did they die or were they just deep chilled. I HATE it when I only get part of a story!!! Anyone?

They were just too cold, dropped off the trees and will be fine when they warm up.

They are most likely in a state of hibernation. Of course some will die but if they were healthy to begin with most will make it once it warms up unless they are injured in the fall.

We hibernate our desert tortoise every year even though our climate rarely gets to freezing temps. As cold weather nears she starts eating more dead plants to clear her system and get ready for her "sleep". Once the days are sufficiently cold we put her in a crate on the rear porch. If freezing temps hit we move her to the unheated garage.

She isn't completely lifeless during this time. She will move a bit if disturbed. We know it's official Spring when she awakens. She has a huge appetite at that time and will easily 3 times her normal amount that she eats during the summer.

I feel bad for those Iguanas. They are not really native to Florida at all. People brought them in as pets.

Thanks, Shiloh -- I doubt it's a video game, though. The guy is quite up there in years (post-retirement). I'm sure he's not building anything, either. It woke me up with a start on Saturday morning. It was the drilling, accompanied by music. So I'm pretty sure it's an alarm clock of some sort. I called the office on Friday afternoon and spoke to the landlord's daughter, who was very sympathetic and equally puzzled. Her father was away, but due back the next day. She said she'd make some calls and then call me back. She did, saying that she'd called the property manager and left a message, and then talked to her father who said he'd handle it. Supposedly he was supposed to be there on Saturday and would talk to him. Well, I still heard the noise over the weekend. I'll see what happens tonight when I go to bed and if I hear it again, I will call again tomorrow. I'm a tenant at will, so I don't have a lease. I've thought of calling the police, but I'm hesitant to take it to that level. If I don't get satisfaction, though, I will! It's to the point where I don't even want to go to bed because I'm afraid I'll hear it, so I fall asleep on the sofa and then I stagger into bed in the middle of the night when I wake up. Of course, I never really fall back to sleep soundly.

Strange indeed, an hard to do a Google search. I'd clear the browser history for one. Do you remember the TFC Program I use to post here Temp file cleaner, do you have that? I'd run that too. All I can think of for now. Joe

better check and see if he has a trap in the drain from the cooling coil. the furnace probable has a trap, but if the cooling coil does not, when the furnace is running you are blowing air into the drain line. might not do that on cooling because of the water running in the drain. later paulbm

We have no hope of identifying the noise on the forum. What you need to do is trouble shoot. Turn off the electricity. Does the noise stop? If not, turn off the water and listen again. If the noise continues even when water and power are off put your ear to the wall (or use a glass) and try and narrow down the origin. Did you leave the dog locked in a room? Seriously, the idea is to turn off reasons for the noise so you trouble shoot logically. Good luck.

Apparently, the poor critters were introduced by "careless pet owners" and have become a very invasive species in Florida.

Thanks, nicole-ont, that's the one!! I was thinking it was a good time to collect them also. I would put them in a better enclosure than a moving car!!

LOL......could you imagine walking down the street at night & having one drop on you! That would scare the heck out of you. I know they will be ok once it warms up. My sons had lots of lizards growing up & I remember one time the heat went out in the house. Yes, they do hibernate & survive :~)
