In a situation like that, I'd be clinging to my grand-daughter, too. Unless you daughter has already meet her on-line person of interest, it could go either way from great to just ok to horrid.

Oh my, I feel for you. Hope this turns out to be a good thing but meeting someone on line and going off to live with them sounds like an 'iffy' thing to me. Wish them good luck and hope that GD has a happy home.

What kind of track record does her Mom have with regard to common sense, especially with regard to choosing potential friends?

Yes - it's hard ... but I hope that you can have faith that things will work out well for her - and your daughter, as well.

I know a couple who met online that have been happily married for several years.

Hoping this works out for your granddaughter and her mother. If not, you'll probably be seeing her again soon.

I feel for you & your hubby. That's hard to watch a grandchild & daughter go. Do you & your daughter have web cams? My son & grandson moved after being with us for years and being able to see & talk with them helped. I could 'see' that they were ok :~)

OUCH! This has to be terribly hard. Hope your DD will keep in touch. Hope things will work out well, but from what you posted that would be surprising. Let's try to think long term and better times.

I hurt for you too. My youngest DD did this to me when my DGD was about a year old. Sold her computer (where she'd met this gigolo)and flew with her to Tampa. She'd never met this guy. I was beside myself, and sick with worry. DGD had asthma, and a humid, climate was not the place for her. We tracked her down through a game she'd been playing online. Everquest (I think). Got ahold of him from her phone bill, and asked if she was there. He said no (she probably told him to say that). We said we were sending the cops, and he let us talk to her. Talked her into coming back with the baby. He brought them back in an old van that was ready to fall apart. They stayed together about a year, and he never had a job. I talked a blue streak to show her what a loser he was. Finally she saw it and kicked him out. I was so glad. Prayers for you and I hope she comes to her senses. If she wanted to go, fine. Leave that innocent baby out of it.

I feel for you and sending prayers that all will be ok. If you have any uneasy feelings, you could go on people search, type in the name and for a small fee find out more. Also you might talk to your local law enforcement, and run the name by them. Sometimes they will at least check the name out, but because of the privacy laws not be able to tell you, but could follow up. Just a thought. Be honest with your daughter, and let her know she can call collect from anywhere for help.

How old is GD?

If she is an older child perhaps she knows your tel number teach it to her as soon as possible when she comes back home.

I wish your daughter and DGD well, and I can imagine how upset you are with the situation. Please let us hear how things are with them.

I'm sorry, Terilyn, I can imagine how sad/sick that you are. How old is your granddaughter? Are communications open between you and her mom? Hoping that you can keep track of your DGD's safety and wellbeing.

Grand is not quite 2, not my daughter, she is son's child, he hasn't done his part so he has no say in what her mother does. I did do a background check on the guy he seems ok. they will be in Virginia until April then to California. I do plan on getting her for frequent visits.

well...ca is a great place to visit...maybe mom will do like my parents and let her come for visits in the summers...

so sorry ds hasn't learned the joy of parenthood...neither did my bil...but the kids step-dad was awesome...

She is with us until Monday, they leave for Virginia Beach then. He is in the Navy, seems to be a good guy. My problem is with Mom, she left her here on the 10th of December, called once, got back on the 31st. I'm keeping my mouth shut so we will get visitation.
