Use R-22 or R-410?

I just bought a 20 year old ranch style, vinyl sided house in North Carolina that needs a new split heat pump. I've decided to replace the 20 year old Rheem system with a Seer 14 system from either Carrier or American Standard.

The problem is that because of the location of the exterior unit and the construction of the home I have two choices:

1. Use the existing copper coolant piping and use a new R-22 system, or

2. Install new coolant piping for an R-410 system, but the piping will have to run up the exterior of the house.

The problem with option 1 is that I'll be installing a system that will essentially become obsolete and perhaps unserviceable down the road. And the problem with option 2 is that no matter how I try to "conceal" the copper piping (best idea so far is to run it through some PVC pipe or aluminum downspout) it will still muck up the exterior appearance of the house (and perhaps devalue the home as well).

Any thoughts or recommendations?
