Hmm, good question. I'd definately use them, especially if you've got hot compost. I guess I'd figure them to be a green, especially if they haven't dried out enough to "puff" yet. Also I think the "puff" is that mature spores heading out so same deal, if it doesn't puff the the spores aren't going to cause problems since they aren't ready yet. Plus if you've got a hot pile the spores should get cooked and not grow. Even if they do these are fungi which work to digest dead stuff so that'd be a composting plus.

We have 2 commercial sized greeenhouses at the farm, one we heat the other isn't. My brugs usually go in the unheated house and the rest of my plants go in the heated one. My husband said I can't take up as much room as I usually do so this year some brugs will go in our basement and garage : ( Most of the other plants and my variegated brugs will go under HID lights in our house. I hate putting plants in the house but I like the alternative even less. lol It's been near 80 all week but the first frost is predicted for Friday night so the move has started. I dread this time of year. Karyn **This is half of the heated GH. You'd think he could give me a little more space, but no it's needed for the plants that actually generate income! lol

My neighborhood is having a garage sale, and I will be selling my tomato plants again. The neighborhood is Wychwood, in Aylmer and it's Saturday, May 26, starting at 8am. I'm at the end of Pine st, left hand side, you won't miss me if you go by. If you're coming from Ottawa, take the Champlain bridge, turn left on Lucerne right off the bridge, and follow Lucerne all the way through two sets of lights. Pine st is on your left, second street after the second set of lights. It's the access street to Wychwood. I have lots of organic heirloom tomato plants, all grown from seed, wide variety. These are open pollinated, so you can save seeds for next year if you want to try growing them yourself. If you need info on how to save the seeds, just let me know. Lots of Beefsteak ( aka Ponderosa), Rutgers, Reisentraube, Roma and Amish Paste. Many other varieties in smaller numbers, many are old Russian types. Would really like to get more plant nuts to this sale. Set up a table or just drop off some plants. We usually have a good crowd in the Community. The last time my son and I did this we sold out of plants by 11. The ZIP in my neighborhood is 34771 (Narcoossee). Like I said willing to trade or sell. I am always on the hunt for something kewl or unusual. Bromeliads have become the latest trend in the garden.
