calphalon contemporary nonstick

hello...i recently purchased some calphalon contemporary nonstick pieces which i really loved, at least they look nice, cause i havent got the burners in my kitchen installed yet. my question is if i can use these cookware on ceramic cooktops, so i know what to purchase for my new kitchen...

Yes you can. They are nice and heavy, so they won't warp easily. As long as they remain flat you can use them on ceramic.

You might want to check out the Analon line of non stick made by Meyer. Reviews very well over at Amazon, and the one pan I have is excellent. Better non stick than Calphalon, heavy weight, really good and less expensive. I have some Calphalon Pro and Commercial nonstick, and they are good and I like them, no peeling, but not as non stick as the Analon. I don't know about Cal "ONE".

Sorry to hear you're having problem with your Calphalon cookware. I purchased a set long ago when they just first came out with the Contemporary design. At the time, they only offered a 10-piece set and that's the set I have. I didn't have any of those problem with my Calphalon Contemporary Triply SS set. If you paid full retail price, I don't think you're being too picky. After all, that set is quite pricey! You ought to get what you've paid for.

Actually many considerations must be taken into account before you purchase. Type of stove, gas is best so we will not include that. Electric burners or glass top? Enamel, Pyrex or corning, aluminum unless steel clad, cast iron(no-no) and coated copper will not work well and may damage your glass top. I've owned a set of Calphalon for 11 years and have started to replace them singularly with Circulon, buying only those rated for over 500 degrees so they can go from glass top to oven fro special dishes. My mother and aunt came to visit me and i made the mistake of allowing them to clean up, s out came the steel wool(which I used only for wood working, and there went the non stick surface to a few of my best Calphalons-LOL I also had all non stick utensils they felt steel barbecue forks and tongs were better. I cant wait to hit 80-LOL My decision was based on a very curt and condescending reply from Calphalons customer Service to inquire about re-coating or resurfacing? The Teflon spray do it yourself became illegal because criminals were spraying bullets to kill cops. I am not displeased with my new Circulon pans. Very little temp variation, built like a battleship and cleans up with a simple rinse and wipe like a well season cast iron pan-oh the days of gas cooking...alas.

Some Circulon pans made between 1998 and 2000 had no nonstick applied. This was limited to certain saute pans, stock pots, and casseroles. The line was called Circulon Hi- Heat. Every other Circulon pan produced since the line was created in the early 80's has a nonstick coating, regardless of the line. The ribbed pattern you refer to is common in all Circulon cookware. It's called the Hi-Low groove system. When Calphalon came to market back in the 70's, none of their cookware had nonstick coatings. It was all uncoated hard anodized aluminum. The first nonstick line was not introduced until the 80's. As far as anodized aluminum cookware without nonstick today. Calphalon One infused is the correct choice. It is not a nonstick coating, but infused polymers into the anodized surface. Just don't expect it to perform as a true nonstick piece would. The best course of action may be to select one or two nonstick fry pans. Try to select anodized aluminum nonstick. I could go on and on about nonstick adhesion testing and abrasion testing and why anodized aluminum and nonstick are meant for each other, just know this. The actual surface of anodized aluminum provides the perfect surface for a nonstick coating to bond to. It's why you see nonstick coating "peel" off raw aluminum cookware and chip or flake off anodized cookware.

I have a Calphalon Professional Nonstick set. The 12" skillet and saute pan bottoms warped on my ceramic top. Calphalon was great about replacing them recently, but I guess they no longer make the Professional line because they sent me Calphalon One. These days I rarely use my non-stick skillet, and when I do I'm extra careful not to overheat it. Still, it's warped enough to where it spins like a top on my cooktop. Sorry, but I doubt you'll have much better luck with Contemporary unless you're really careful. Watch your heat and take comfort that they'll give you a new one pieces when they warp.

By the way, my first All Clad (SS) skillet warped, too. Wms Sonoma relaced it, though not particularly cheerfully. Realize that a perfectly flat bottom makes a big difference to maintaining even heat on a ceramic top. If my heat setting is approaching med-hi, I'm reaching for my cast iron.

YMMV, but I doubt it.

James, that's interesting. My girlfriend bought a set (I pushed her because her old pots and pans were so old and warped and thin, and didn't conduct heat at all), and she only likes non-stick. And hers have been fine on her ceramic top for a couple years now.

She's careful to let them cool down before washing.

I have only one heavy nonstick pan I use for eggs. The rest is a set of all-clad-copycat Costco Kirkland brand that's been beautiful and perfect, no warping at all.

To be fair, it takes far less warping to spin like a top than to have a negative impact on cooking. My new pans are still perfectly functional (if they weren't they'd be in the mail again) but I was just disappointed that there was "any" warping being as how careful I've been.

I've spent about two years debating between induction and gas in my eventual new kitchen, and quite honestly pan warpage is one of my biggest concerns with induction, even though I haven't seen that complaint raised over in Appliances.

I have some of those pieces and I love them, I'm not exactly careful with them, like Gina said about a hot pan and washing, but that's just me, I'm always in a rush, so far it hasn't warped. At home I use my set on a ceramic cooktop with no issues. I also use a set of them in camp when I cook on a gas stove, with little kids and they've held up great. I don't use metal utensils with them.
