My lost & found experiences: Like a lot of people I often think how great it would be to find a bunch of money. But I always hope that If I do, PLEASE let there be no ID with it, because thanks to that guilt trip my Mom (very religious) laid on my when I was a kid, I'd have to do all I could to locate the rightful owner. I wouldn't ask for a reward either. I wouldn't turn it in anywhere because I believe that sadly in this day and age the average person would just pocket it. Found $65 on the floor of a nightclub in Avalon NJ, just the money, no ID. Sweet! Found $30 in Sears parking lot at Neshaminy Mall, NE Phila. - no car parked nearby. Again, cash only. Found a passport walking from the train to work. Tracked down the owner, called, said I'd bring it over. Knocked / rang the bell, no answer, car in the driveway. I think they didn't want to risk me asking for a reward (I wouldn't). I left it in the mailbox. When my 24 year old daughter was 3 she found a childs wallet in the playground with $3 and address / phone number inside. She wanted to keep it but I said we have to return it. The mother didn't eveen say thank you. I gave Kris $1 as a reward. When I delivered pizza part time I found $43 with no ID in the shop but it was where the drivers congregated and there was only one other driver working with me. I returned the money. Older peope are no more or less honest than the younger ones. Again as a pizza deliverer, I took an order to a florist shop. When they paid me I put the money in my jacket pocket, something I never did, usually. Walking back to the car I reached in to retrieve the money & felt only change. I turn back toward the door - I'm about 30 feet away - and the old lady who ran the register by the door is scuttling toward the bill, a ten, reaching for it when her eyes met mine. I quickly said 'Looks like I dropped my change.' She replied 'Yeah, I guess so.' or something like that. She got up and walked back inside.

This last January amidst several months of other health issues, I had a molar crown fall off. I experienced no pain from the tooth despite the fact that the tooth was exposed for over a week from the missing crown. Having just started a new job, I had to find a new dentist that was accepted by my dental policy. I went in and told the dentist that I just needed my old crown re-cemented on. The dentist said that would be a liability to him if the cement didn't hold and I choked on it so I agreed to a root canal and new crown. Ever since the root canal, the tooth has ached. I went back a month later and told the doctor that it hurts to eat, touch my face or brush my teeth. He said the tooth must have cracked and that I need an implant which involves four months without a tooth on that side of my mouth. And of course additional cost done by another dental specialist that I will have to absorb. I said no. I'm furious. Because I've been seeing a half a dozen doctors for my other health issues and having a number of test that require me to take time off from my new job, I have not been willing to take even more time off to go back to the dentist. He told me he would talk to the dentist who did the root canal and get back to me. Which he never did. I have an appointment with the dentist office for a cleaning next week and will have to deal with whatever the next step might be then. Jodi-

Hi, one who'd rather eat cookies than forks, If you have a dental school nearby, if they will take you as a client, their fees are much lower than those charged by the average ... or, more likely, any, local dentist. Some time ago, when my student (a young woman with gentle hands with Asiatic Indian background) was figuring out my bill, which was $32.00 for the first extraction in a quadrant and $16.00 for the four others in that quadrant ... ... I said, "96" ... and when she'd got the figuring completed and came up with that number, she and the secretary who'd provided the numbers looked at me to ask how I'd figured that. I said that four sixteens were equal to two thirty-twos, so three thirties were ninety ... and three twos were six, which, added to ninety, made ninety-six. How many people do you know who've had 5 teeth removed (granted, all in the same quadrant) for $96.00? Not insured ... not covered by the Canadian healthcare system ... so out of ole joyfuelled's pocket - to add to his joy. ole joyfuelled

IdaClaire, I am in the dental profession and want assure you that implants are the "standard of care" now, meaning that if a single tooth needs to be replaced it might be your best option. I work at a dental school in Boston 2 days/week, where we see patients who travel many miles for the discounted fee at a dental school. However, since you have a dentist you trust and you also trust her judgement in referring you to a good oral surgeon, you can go forward with confidence. You are correct in that implants are a good option vs. bridge when "virgin" teeth are involved. Re: Springroz's comment on the cost " What I do not understand is why insurance covered most of the endo, but almost NONE of the crown....as if you had a choice to do the crown!" Your insurance company will pay up to the maximum allowed per calendar year. That is it. So if you had endodontic treatment on a tooth or teeth you may have used all your benefits for the year. Therefore the crown would not be covered in full. Anyone with dental insurance can request that a pre-treatment estimate of all costs be sent to the insurance company before beginning treatment. The ins.co will send you a determination of benefits. This way, you know up front what the ins.co. will cover and what you will have to pay out of pocket. If you want to maximize you benefits, you may be able to have the implant done now and the crown done in January or later.
