we're cold

Hubby and I always get cold around 4 to 5 pm. We have a very comfortable house. Why are we only cold at this time of day...

I suspect that it's just a case of the slow down in the afternoon due to low blood sugar. Now enough to bother you, but just a general slowing down of metabolism. Then you eat supper, blood sugar goes back up and you feel warm again. Have you tried a snack or an nice cup of tea about that time of day? Try a piece of toast with a spread of peanut butter and jelly on it about 3:45 and see if it helps.

I think it's the opposite, after you eat, all the blood goes to your stomach to digest, and you get cold. Your house is cold at that hour because it's just before sunset, and the sun's extra heating of the house is now over.

Isn't it wonderful to inherit mature camellias on your property! It sounds like you are doing pretty well with rejuvenating the hedge, based on another post where you mentioned a heavy pruning, good work. If the plants are all of the same variety, I would fill the gaps with the same if you can find it, or do some airlayers on the existing ones and plant them in the gaps. I like the effect of massed plants of the same variety in bloom. On the volunteer, if it is that small, and you can get all the root and keep the ball totally intact, it can probably be dug, but this is really not the best time to mess with a camellia's root system during the growing season. Safer to wait until dormancy if the neighbor will cooperate. I have a few small seedlings popping up, and am waiting. The upright grower -- if that is its natural growth habit -- won't change with pruning, it will grow upright again. Check those others in the neighborhood and see if they are upright also. If so, you will have to get used to it, but if not, then pruning may make a leggy plant more bushy and spreading.

Since heat rises, your upstairs should "naturally" get warmer than your downstairs. But your 2-zone system should balance things out so that there is less heat getting pumped upstairs and more downstairs to compensate for the natural discrepancy between the two floors. My guess is that whatever your system is supposed to do to give you balanced heat is not functioning and needs to be either adjusted or replaced.

it shouldnt be an issue if its sealed properly. the problem with the brished is they go through the resin treatment that usually makes these types of stones impervious to staining. do a little research on sealers, and determine which you think would be best for you, and ask your fabricator if he is willing to use it. I am a rep for Surface Treatment Technologies, which makes a premium sealer. other brands that would be good to use are Stone Tech Impregnator Pro, Dry Treat Stain Proof, and Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold. some may be available locally while others may not. you should relax, it's not as big a concern as you think. I have Columbo Gold in my kicthen, one of the most porous granites by far. I can let oil and wine sit for 24 hours with no issues. pick what you like, have it sealed properly, and enjoy it without stress.

I can be freezing, no matter what the house temp.or how many layers I put on and then during dinner, I start warming up and by the time I'm done, I have removed some layers of clothes. My daughter does the same thing.

Yes, there's nothing like a cup of soup or tea when you're cold,, but not too long after a meal I'm reaching for a sweater or afghan. But I can sit in our house in the sunny afternoon, but when 4 o'clock rolls around I feel the difference and I'm cold. Forget cloudy days, I'm always cold lol!!

It doesn't have to be soup or tea, anything will warm me up and I stay warm the rest of the evening, but everyone is different!

I get cold the first time temps drop into the 40's and don't warm up 'til spring!

We have dinner about 5:30, so if cooking anything in the oven, I try to time it for that time of day so it helps heat the attached family room. Used to keep a tea kettle going but with natural gas prices being what they are, I've stopped that.
