Anyone have wood-look tile in master bedroom?

We are in Florida, have dogs and a pool so wood is not practical.

We have porcelain tile in our main areas, wood-look tile in our den and carpet in our bedrooms.

We are finally redoing our master bedroom. I want to redo it with carpet as it is it is a warmer/cozier feel.

My husband wants wood-look tile and a large area rug. I think this will be a colder look and feel. I also think it may be a turn-off when we sell someday (maybe 5 years?)

Does anyone have wood-look porcelain in their master? What is your opinion?

How often do you go into the bedroom dripping wet from the pool? Is the bedroom large enough for the dogs to run from end to end? It could be that wood would be just fine.

I have wood floors in my living room, dining room, and hall. I've had 1 or 2 dogs (with big feet) since the wood was installed. I keep their nails trimmed - as soon as I hear them clickity-clack on the floor, I get out the clipper. Our wood floors have scratches after 15 years, but not from the dogs.

I wouldn't want tile in the bedroom, even with a rug. But I live in North Dakota, not Florida, so my needs are a bit different.

How exciting! So, how do you envision your master bedroom? What are you thinking of for wall color / paper? Will the fireplace be raised, will it have a mantle / hearth? In our family room we moved the fireplace so got to start from scratch: I had Delft tiles painted of our children / pets as the four-sided surround (it's slightly raised so as to avoid having to do a hearth). I love it and while clearly it's incredibly taste-specific (not just the Delft but images of our family) I think of Delft as being a sort-of neutral (and definitely timeless); with many styles of decor Delft just goes. Clearly, if LeCorbusier is your guru then Delft would be ridiculous! But I'm guessing based on what you wrote he isn't .... When I'm ready to spend money again (ha ha), we'll be adding a(n electric) fireplace to our bedroom, and I'm pretty sure I'll be using leftover Calacatta marble as the surround. I am one of those who lust after marble and since we have a bit (from a kitchen remodel) I figure that equals a win win for me. I think using the same Carrara as your bathroom could be a beautiful way to unite the spaces into a suite. I also think using Delft tiles could be a wonderful way of injecting the warmth and personality (of those tiles) into your bedroom. I'll be interested in hearing more about your room.

When did the 'master' bedroom become the 'principal' bedroom?

I’m in Canada and the townhome we just bought used “master bedroom” and ”second bedroom”. The bathroom is actually “master bathroom” too, though en-suite is more popular. I think “principal bedroom” works well, especially if describing short term rentals (where multiple couples might share a rental), rentals by you adults (again where roommates might be sharing), or multi- generational homes. You still want to confirm which room is the largest, but there isn’t a need to explain who then “master” of the home is. Random point- when I’ve booked Airline tickets for my son, he always gets the prefix “master” vs “Mr” on his tickets/booking. Hubby and I always get a good laugh, as there are definitely days where it feels like he runs things in our home! Maybe he should get the new master bedroom haha.

Can you post some pics . IMO wood is the way to go and get unfinished and then have finished onsite to match the rest of the floors that would be perfect. Other than that a vinyl tile look might work but I think it will look like acheap fix .

@kandrewspa, it is a medium stone gray 12x24 ceramic tile (see close up below). The vanity is a white washed oak (see close up again, the lighting was bad in my original photo!). The vanity manufacturer does have other colors (white, gray and black walnut), and other designs (that are more modern); we love the quality. I like neutrals (my whole house is neutral!), like white/off white, gray, wood and black (black more as accents like mirrors and frames and hardware). Liking the satin brass too. I will try to find photos on Houzz. I don't want the bathroom to feel cold (and the natural light is not great).

Well, you DID say look and "feel..." Aside that, there are a number of excellent products that have a "warm" look....Cherry, mahogany, distressed barn, etc. You might want to have a look around......

I agree with StoneTech. We are in the process re-doing our bedroom floors in cherry hardwood. We put radiant heat mat underneath because, well, Washington State.

We have lux vinyl tile in plank form (wood look) in two colors/styles and a 12" tile style..in our Florida home...
the style/color of the wood-look plank in a driftwood/limed elm was used in master bed/bath and I love it--
but not crazy about the teak look (more red/yellow tones) in the other living areas nor the gray sq tiles--just not what I would have chosen especially for house that is close to beach--
but the previous owners installed them--
but they have held up very well--think they have been down about 5 yrs
we have cat that sheds and dog that doesn't--
it is easy to sweep the cat's fur because neither type flooring has textured surface--
easy to come in/out of lanai area
easy to clean spills our grandson might make
there are some very realistic styles of LVT in plank format--
spend your time looking for good quality--it will pay off--
some stores don't carry wide variety of LVT so you might not see variety of carpet/laminate/tile in stock--

the LVT we are considering using when we remodel master bath/bedroom DOES have more of a texture to make the wood-look more realistic I guess...but now I am starting to think that might not be as easy to clean since tiny crevices might trap mop water and other stuff...

we like how there are no thresholds moving from area to area within the house--except guest bedrooms that have carpet--
that is why we chose to go with LVT again for bath remodel...

there are various ways those LVT products go down on slab/subfloor--
ours was glued and might be hassle to take it up but seams show no sign of peeling anywhere...
