Neck pain

My father has this new pain that's just behind his left ear in his neck. It came on gradually. Does anyone have any suggestions on what he can take for it?

I mentioned that I take aleve (naproxen) and advil (ibuprofen) for my pains, but I don't know what else to suggest... ???

Please help...

I'd say it depends on the source of the pain. I get pain behind my right year but it's due to a strained muscle from an old whiplash years ago. Other sources of pain would probably require more than just pain medication.

If it continues, I'd encourage him to see a doctor to get to the source of the pain.

I've had a lot of problems with degenerated disc disease. I developed pain from behind my left ear, down through my shoulder and centre of back. No one would pay any atention to me. The pain was very severe. I now have a new Dr. and he immediately told me that he thought it was the trapezious muscle, not the discs. I have allergies and can't take many medications. He did give me something but I could not tolerate it. He told me to do exercising by shrugging my shoulders. I can't believe the difference. I feel better than I have for months. If you look this muscle up on the web, you will see it covers all these areas. I so much wish someone would have listened to me before as the pain was terrible! Hope this helps.

Tendto, I'm glad the water remedy helped your husband. I read on the other arthritis thread about also adding salt to the water. I have to add a caution for both your remedies: Anyone with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and other ailments needs to be very careful about overdoing liquid intake. In fact, most people suffering from a host of ailments are taking diuretics to eliminate excess water in their system. The excess water creates edema and makes breathing difficult because the lungs fill up with liquid. And people suffering from all kinds of heart problems including CHF and high blood pressure need to lower their salt intake. So, while this remedy may help your husband, it may actually be dangerous for others. Unfortunately, many elderly deal with heart health issues, swelling, and difficulty breathing. So they're a particularly vulnerable group.

That's so sad. Over the years I've had to face this many times, and it hasn't gotten any easier. In fact, I think it's harder. I have a 14-year-old Briard mix, and I think about this often. Two consolations: One, that my dog and yours have lived with love and care and fun for all of their time with us. Use of Heat Pack For back pain, for neck pain, for eye strain, for relaxation. Be sure to heat the pack only for a short time, less than a minute depending on the size, just long enough to warm up but not long enough to cook the contents. The herbal contents will lose its effectiveness in a few months, in less than that, if used frequently. If the smell is gone and you don't want to make a new pack, you can dab on essential oils (aromatherapy). Use of Cold Pack For inflammation. Keep in freezer. Pretty quilts, Theresa. I particularly like the colors in the first one. So sorry about your neck and the necks and backs of all my quilting friends. I have degenerative issues in my lower back, L4, L5 and S1. I was 5'6" in my younger years, and I am now 5'3". I used to always stand in the back row, and now I'm constantly told to move forward 'cuz I'm short. I just had another spinal injection three weeks ago. The pain travels down my right leg. My spine surgeon says the only solution would be a fusion of those vertebrae, but I'm not going to do that if I can deal with it with exercise, injections and possible ablations. Getting old sucks, but so does not getting old. Wear your masks when you go out, everyone. It's the only way we can all stay healthy until a vaccine is developed.
