Do a google search for Earlobe Crease. There are about 40,000 references to it. It seems to be one of those things that seems to indicate increased risk of heart problems, but no one is sure.

Hi agnespuffin, I already found lots of conflicting articles, but I am hoping for opinions/experiences from health forum participants.

My DH and I first read of that many years ago. He had the earlobe crease. He also had very low cholesterol and absolutely no heart problems of any kind.

That's interesting because my Mom had an earlobe crease (on both ears) and had much heart problems. Not what she died of, but she did have heart problems. Of course she was overweight, smoked like a chimney, didn't watch what she ate, was diabetic...probably contributed MUCH more than the earlobe crease!!!

Vickey, I am sorry about your mom. I did read that creases in diabetics don't have any predictive value, only in non-diabetics.

My husband has the crease. He is still okay at 59.

Devorah, thanks for posting, I am glad he's okay! Does he have them on both ears, or on one?

I heard about this several years ago. Pictures of my Dad show that he had the crease. He died of a heart attack at age 49. I have the crease on both ears...I am 65 and so far so good.

Gazania, my father had his first heart attack at age 51, and his third killed him at 58. I never noticed if he had creases, I'll have to dig out some pics and check. This afternoon, I talked to a neighbor who's had 2 heart attacks and a stroke, and no creases on either ear.

My husband has a deep crease on one ear. He's 79, plays golf twice a week, still lifts weights at a competitive level and has then medals to prove it.

He's never been a couch potato but has always been very athletic all his life. When he was in the army, he played football, and boxed professionally. Played some professional baseball.

And his heart? a heart murmer was found when he entered the army at the age of 17. They were desperate for recruits then and took him anyway. So, it's possible to have a crease and a heart defect, but it does not mean heart problems or poor health. At least it doesn't in the 79 year old man that I live with.

Agnespuffin, thanks for posting. Your husband sounds extraordinary, I don't know of any other 79 year olds who lift weights at a competitive level!

A medical textbook I studied said - that in 74% of sudden earlobe creases, death occured within 6 months. Of cource, that doesn't pertain to earlobe creases that have been a normal part of aging earlobes. The keyword is "sudden".

My first thought is that if you sleep on the side of your head, you'd have a crease in your earlobe after so many years. Maybe these people have larger earlobes. lol

A "sudden" crease sounds more convincing. :)

csedgewood, I've never heard of sudden earlobe creases, just ones that manifest over years. What caused the deaths associated with the sudden crease? Also, were they unilateral or bilateral and was this the case for all age groups?

grandmapoo, you are right, people get sleep creases all over their face, why not the earlobe too. :o)
