Just lost my mother.

My mother passed away on October 7th, 2007 from heart dysrhythmia. Not even four months ago, my best friend lost his mother to breast cancer, and two months previous to that, my other friend's mother had a brain hemorrhage at her daugthers wedding in Florida and passed away. After going through the trials that those deaths brought to my door step, it seemed as if I was already prepared to lose my mother. When I found out that my mother had passed while at work, I cried. Ever since then, however, it seems like it's harder and harder to show emotion over the subject, which makes me feel like a complete and total ass. I don't understand how the most important person in my life can be gone, and for some unknown reason, little to nothing can make me so emotionally upset over the matter.

I think that part of the reason that I haven't really become overwhelmed with emotion is because I'm still living in our house and I've yet to get rid of her car, three weeks after she's passed. Coming home everyday reminds me of her, while seeing her car there gives me a false sense of hope, like walking in the door I'm going to see her sitting there reading the newspaper, napping, or watching Dr. Phil.

I don't really know what to do to make myself believe that my mother is really gone. I've sought out my friends and my aunt who have all lost their mothers young, but I seen this forum on google and figured a larger group of individuals who know what it's like would be able to help.

Any suggestions to help me move forward and come to grips with reality?

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of your mother.

Evey one of us grieves at our own pace and in our own way. I see nothing unusual about your reactions or lack of outward signs of grief. You are just in the early stages of whatever path you are going to take.

Three weeks is not long at all to have not taken action to get your mom's things to whereever they are going next. I urge you to move very slowly in cleaning up her car, clothes, etc. You need to give yourself more time to decide these things and you really don't want to hurry. You may take some actions that later you will wish you hadn't done.

I was like you - very little outward emotion when my wife passed. I knew I would upset my young sons if I cried or was sad. But, it eventually came and still strikes me whenever it wants (it's been seven months). Odd things like a sound or smell can do it. You never know.

The idea that it's hard to believe she's gone is a common one. I still can't believe it some days and I expect my wife to be somewhere close just out of sight.

Your mind does things to protect itself. For you, this may be one of them. You sound normal to me!

I agree totally with what Doc said. My daughter has been gone for almost 10 years and my mom has been gone for 3 years and it is still hard to believe that they are really gone. Grief comes in little doses sometimes. It is built in self preservation. If the grief consumed us all at once, it would be unbearable. We have to take it as we can and our bodies know how much we can absorb.

My mother passed away April 13th 2022. she raised me and my sister, as a single mother. she worked 2 jobs to ptovide for us, but we took her for granted as children. When the mother of my 2 children passed away in 2016, my mother moved in with us. My mother helped raise my daughter(16 now) and my son(15 now) for almost a decade. My mother was more than just my best friend, she was my only friend. i have complex PTSD, and she was the only one that i trusted enough to talk about the war with… she went with me to the VA, when i had to. she gave me strength, she always seemed to understand things that other people either couldnt or didnt want to understand… my dog died about a month before my mother did… 2022 has taken a lot from me and my 2 children… they saw her as a mother, as much as me… i go from feeling numb to feeling deep sadness and loss… i don‘t want to give up, but i always needed her support. she died from cancer, after being on immunotherapy for 2 years… she suffered from many side effects, for most of her treatment. she became so thin near the end that it was painful to see her like that… i was with her until the end, and it may sound strange but i held her for some time after she died and just sobbed onto her… i talk to her still thst she is dead for months, but i still wake up thinking that she is alive… i beli my mother is in heaven, but selfishly i just want my mom back… i miss my only friend… i miss the only selfless person that i ever met… i feel so empty, and i did not think that id feel so lost… she gave me direction when i didnt know what to do… i hope this posts, it does give comfort to know that i am not a

I know you don't feel it now, but it will get easier. You will smile again I promise. One day you will feel peace again, I promise. I lost my mom 2 yrs ago. Yes, it still hurts. I cried tonight, out of the blue, because I missed her.But it is the first time in 2 months that I have done that. I have came a long way. I am not where I want to be, but I thank God I am not where I used to be.I am still healing. Please remember this. Nobody, not even God, can fully take your mother away.You will always be part of your mother. You have her genes, her blood, maybe her hands, maybe her eyes, maybe you laugh like her, walk like her. i am 14, my dad died unexpectadly too about three weeks ago, my birthday was three days preceeding the funeral. i have five siblings and a little sister who is eleven. i am my familys stronghold too. you can talk to me because i know what you are going through, honestly, and its really rough. but your dad wants you to be strong for your family. He loves you and is very proud of you for taking this sacrafice for him as a subsutite of his absence. He is your gaurdian angel, if ever you feel like just collapsing, dont collapse in on yourself, please just facebook message me, i can honesly relate to what your feeling. if ever you feel lost or hopeless, just pray to your gaurdian angel, and he will be there for you even when you feel completely independent and you are enduring burden all by yourself, he is right by your side, tracing every step you take and picking up the pieces you dropped or just couldnt handle anymore, and he takes care of them for you, because he loves you and wants you to be happy, if he is with you in flesh or not doesn't matter anymore, now he is with you always, looking down from heaven with a smile, pointing you out to all the saints that pass HEY LOOK THATS MY DAUGHTER!! he is so proud, and he loves you more than you will ever comprehend, and he just wants to let you know that he is there for you, even when you think you don't need him, he is still there, holding your hand walking you all the way through pace by pace, taking baby steps all the way, not excluding any single miniscule detail and leading you through every obsticle you encounter with ease. if ever you feel hopeless, alone, frusturated lost, or worthless, just give your daddy a call, and he'll be right over, before you even ask. this is how i talk to my dad, this is the first prayer he learned, and he taught this prayer to me and my siblings before we even knew how to pray, and thats where our faith started. i suggest you pray it to your dad, it will really be useful during your grieving process and throughout life in general. Just know that your daddy is on your side, and all he wants to do is guide you though what you can't get through alone. You will never be alone again, your dad will always be with you, just recite this prayer while thinking of your dad, and he will listen, and he wants you to talk to him, because he loves you and misses you. Ask him for advice anytime, or just talk to him and tell him how your life has been or something exciting that has happened recently. Nothing with your relationship has to change from what it was like when he was in flesh, except now he can help you with everything you need assistance with, and he will share his expierence with you. He is very proud of you and he loves you, and if you ever want to talk to him and plea for help or just catch up and say hi, just say this prayer, and he will listen and guide you and protect you and ease your burden, afterall, that is what gaurdian angels do! its his new job, and he couldn't he happier with it! Now you have someone to talk to Jesus for you and ease up God when you make a mistake or sin. He will listen, remeber he will always listen and he really does care. I can't remember the last time I found a penny until my Mom passed away in May. Since then I've found about 15 of them. I'm collecting them in a glass box on my dresser.
