Anxiety!!!

Does anyone suffer from social anxiety where it makes it hard to start a new job? The self doubt and always thinking you are going to make mistakes and what would people think. I've been told I'm so hard on myself but can't seem to get in under control when I start a new job. I get all kinds of scared. I take Ativan to help ease the feeling of anxiety and it works. Would like to hear from other people who suffer from this and what they do to cope or not cope. Thanks...

Xanax.

Make an appointment with a psychiatrist, Xanax is the best thing I have found for anxiety. Good luck with the new job!

I imagine you've already started that new job, but in case you check back here, I have a suggestion.

Our HMO (Kaiser) gives group classes on anxiety management. I'd suggest you see if there is something similar local to you.

Relaxation techniques, diaphragmatic breathing, visualization and ways to re-train your thinking can all be learned.

I'm very sorry for all that's going on in your life, and your anxiety. You have a lot on you, and taking care of yourself needs to be a priority. Please be kind to yourself with special treatments, such as massage and other pampering. I could write a chapter on dealing with complicated grief/anxiety/depression and the drugs that my doctors prescribed, etc. that didn't work for me due to the side effects. I'm very sensitive to drugs and even with something like Excedrin Migraine, can take only half a dose. Wellbutrin caused scary muscle weakness in my thighs and upper arms. I couldn't go up stairs without huffing and puffing (and I usually run up stairs). It made me feel as though I were having a heart attack. Zoloft didn't lift me up at all. Anyway, I now have Trazadone 50mg to take, as needed, if I'm feeling overly anxious in the evening, before bedtime. My doctor would like for me to take it daily, but I can't handle it daily, due to the morning hangover. I take it probably 1-2 times per month and try to calm myself in other ways...including, reaching for sweets, when I shouldn't! Hugs.

We are going to make final revisions on our kitchen remodel. We are changing the floor plan, by knocking down a small wall to open things up a bit more since the kitchen feels cramped as is. We have to make a decision tonight regarding our appliances so that we can order our cabinets. The one appliance we feel confident about is the Sharp microwave drawer. We want an integrated paneled refrigerator, not shown in the rough drawing. We want the refrigerated to blend in with the cabinets. We are leaning toward the Fisher Paykel 36” 71.8” 16.8 cubic capacity French door integrated paneled refrigerator. The 80” version is $1500 more but has the same capacity. We haven’t seen a Fisher Paykel in person. We like the price $4549 and aren’t married to true subzero type 84” refrigerators mainly due to price. We are open to other paneled models but we weren’t impressed with the Liebherr refrigerator. The ranges we are considering considering are the Wolf 36” gas 6 burner and the Kitchenaid 36” Smart gas 6 burner We will more than likely choose a Bosch integrated paneled dishwasher. If you have any of these appliances, please share your thoughts.

We had to go the Prozac route with our Gabby Mayhem, she had some kind of anxiety with peeing, to the point that she was holding it (then it would concentrate) and then it would hurt when she went. So then the litter box (in her mind) was the devil making it hurt, so she'd find other creative places to try to pee comfortably. We were at our wit's end and finally tried the drugs, and it had an almost immediate effect. We kept her on it for a couple of months, and then she kinda told us she was done and didn't need it anymore. She started acting more and more lethargic, so we knew it was time, she had just lost some of her Gabby-ness. We weaned her off, and she's doing great! If you do end up going that route, ignore all the info saying you can't mask it and have to give it by pilling them. I got a small stainless mortar & pestle and would grind it to a powder, and mix it in Almo nature tuna and sardines, and she ate every bit, no problem. (Regular canned tuna in water worked too.) We tried the feliway collars and they didn't work.

Have you used Zylkene for dog's anxiety?

I found this: Zylkene contains bovine-sourced hydrolyzed milk protein, an ingredient that has calming properties. Since it's a supplement I don't see how it can hurt for you to try it. My dog used to be high-anxiety at certain times and we went so far as to try tranquilizers. They didn't help much since they just made him sleeply and a little quieter, but he'd still have his moments. His worst times were when he would try to nip my granddaughter whenever she moved suddenly. We kept him away from GD when she visited and over time my dog became deaf (I think from ear medication). After that he became so much more relaxed, no more barking, and loves attention from GD. How often does your dog go out for walks and to visit areas where there's activity? Have you tried training with a clicker or treats when he's meeting someone new? Wouldnt hurt to have a 2nd opinion on his hearing. He could be over sensitive to sounds.

Hi deedeebaker yep i suffer from anxiety all the time i have real bad panic attacks also but its not because of a job its because im 46 and no longer working my kids are grown up and i feel useless i started with bad heart palpatations initially feeling like i couldnt breath i shut myself away for a long time im still not right but iv started feeling a bit better since i joined this forum i have begun to feel like i am not alone i got advice from here about the palps and i now take a magnesium and calcium suppliment which has stopped the palps and that alone makes me feel easier i hope when you have found your feet a little your self confidence will improve and u wont suffer so much with the anxiety, if you were not good enough for the job hey you wouldnt have got it gud luck.

thanks beauty2009. I can totally understand where you are coming from also. I hadn't been working for over a year after working for 30 years. Tried several jobs after that and so far have not been able to stay at them because of the overwhelming anxiety. I'm hoping the medication I've started will work plus I am trying very hard to change my thought pattern which is a really, really big part of the problem when you have social anxiety. I hope for you too that you start to find peace from the anxiety. It's not a fun thing to deal with.

Meds don't alway solve the problem, sometimes they just cover up the problem. Group therpy or counseling is better with less side effects. Check with the YMCA, local health medical centers or even local churches.

mariend I agree meds don't always solve the problem but for me right now that is the route I've chosen to take. I am unemployed so I cannot afford a $50. copay for outpatient counseling. My husband is the only one working right now and I have 2 kids. As far as checking those places you listed most of the counseling given does not deal with social anxiety which is truly different from anxiety. Social anxiety keeps you from being able to deal with people in large groups for fear you will be judged by them in one way or another and so on. I could go on & on but I am working on it myself as best as I can with the opportunites available to me right now. thanks for your information
