Indy, sometimes ignorance really is bliss as in your bags of dahlias callously ignored in a lonely room. Now that you know more, and are trying to keep them they'll probably rot or dehydrate! Isn't that the way it goes??? I hope not, for your sake, but there's always something that can go wrong or go well. I hope the latter for you. I remember being aghast to learn about storing in Saran Wrap and further violating the theory that moisture and darkness harbor all sorts of fungi and bacteria by storing those inside a plastic bin or styrofoam cooler. Same for plastic bags. It seemed contrary to all gardening common sense. But it does work, and works well in most cases. I use both those methods now with coarse vermiculite or cedar shavings in the plastic bags. The storage media are really not expensive if bought in very large bags. Our feed store carries them both in ~4 cu ft bags that will last for a lot of seasons. The shavings are packed tightly and go a long way. They smell good too. Bottom line is to use what works for you and suits your time and space constraints. But it never hurts to try something new. I've saved individual tubers in aluminum foil and even newspaper rolled up and taped, just to see how they'd do. They're growing in the garden right now.

bsbullie Yeah one of my own mangoes. It needs a few day's more. I was about to put it in a paper bag when I started to think, why not just use a common plastic supermarket bag? That's where it is right now. But maybe no bag is needed. Mangoes don't put out ethylene gas the way bananas do. So you do put bananas in a bag to help them ripen I've had mangoes that fell off prematurely. I exposed them to the sun and made some of it sweet and edible. Salvaging something at least

Flash - The sink base is a 42" In our old kitchen we had the same size sink base and the wall cabinets were much closer to the windows. It didn't exactly feel cramped but I am much happier with the configuration now. It opened up that area noticeably. The windows are 45" wide including trim and 36" without trim. The measurement from the corner to the window glass is 11". Barb - You're Mouser story is very similar to mine. We went to mouser first and the estimate was $19,000. So we ruled them out as that was almost 100% of our budget. We looked and looked at other brands and could not match the construction and look of the Mouser in our area. I was disappointed. So my DH insisted that we go back and try to renegotiate the price. We were willing to give up some of the bells and whistles that were included in our original estimate. The inset doors,the cream paint and the distressing were the things that I did not want to give up. Each of these boosted the end cost by a significant percentage - probably 10% each. We eliminated the glazing, the beaded frame, the custom hood, the blum drawer closers, and we changed the door selection to a less costly option. The stained was definitely cheaper than the painted and we selected a very simple shaker style door for this area which was even less expensive. The owner worked with us closely to get the cost into our budget. We were very frank with him and told him we WANTED MOUSER and if he would get the cost down we would purchase from him. We were willing to compromise on some things and he was too. So we reached a price that was acceptable to us. Believe it or not it was about a 45% reduction after everything was said and done. I can't tell you how happy I am that we went back to him for a second try. I think the first time we were pie in the sky - get everything you want in that estimate. But as we shopped around we became more realistic about what was possible with our limited budget. Hope this helps. We are just outside Lexington, KY. My 15" trash pull-out holds one Rubbermaid 8 gallon wastebasket, which measures 14-1/2" x 11" x 18" (the #2806, which can be found virtually anywhere). I guess there is slight tapering, but it fits grocery store paper bags perfectly. (Though in my city, they have a fairly new policy to add 5 cents/bag to your bill if you don't bring your own bag, and need grocery store bags instead.) As an aside, I wish I had a double-bin trash pull-out so that I could have one for trash, and a second bin for recyclables. I simply did not have the room, but if you do have the room, I recommend it. My recyclables must go directly to the garage recycle bin.
