question on index files

I was finally able to get some pages loaded to a web site. The directions said to be sure to delete the index.html. I did that and now all I have is a list of files on the site. The name of the site is Jamielee and when you go to this site, it says "index of Jamielee.

What did I do wrong?

How do I fix it?

Usually your home page is called index or default. I'm not sure why you were supposed to delete that file. Could you post your web address and maybe we could figure it out from there.

I too avoid beta releases on all except one system which is just for tinkering. On the question of leaving installed betas on-board, I disagree. Unless there is no change reported in the change log, a beta should always be replaced by the final release. All too often users find themselves facing a plethora of beta releases followed by even more RCs (release candidates) before the final release. Take a minute to look at the release history for Firefox on the link below. A user always wants the best, safest, most secure, and most user friendly application available. The final release should always be a clean install rather than the beta overwritten. The use of REVO would be an excellent idea. Betas are not experimental. carbonite is a legit company and is a good back up option, if you go through Kim Komando's site you can get a discounted price for carbonite which is one of her sponsors. It is most often used as a full back up option to back up everything you have of value on your pc. Which everyone should have some type of back up plan in existence. If you only want to back up pictures there are many ways to do that, including putting them on cd's, or a separate external hard drive, or you can use an online storage facility and keep copies there. You might look in your control panel at ' Users ' See if you have Administrator privileges ? Perhaps let us know what version of windows you have,, maybe the program name too.

Deb,

Just rename your main page to index.html. They were just telling you to delete the temporary index file they had placed there.

It is standard procedure to name your main page index.html. Otherwise you will have to specify the file name everytime you go to the site.
