Fonts/Zipped file Question

I have downloaded some new fonts and have no idea how to get them into my font folder. I did do some research and drag/drop seems to be the easiest way. Any advise?

Also the files are zipped so how do I extract the fonts so I can drag/drop them? Do I need winzip to do that? I'm really lost on this one and any help would be appreciated.

If you have XP double click on each zipped font to extract it to a folder of your choice.

Once that is done click Start
click Control Panel
click Font
in the new window click File at the top
click Install new font
find the folder in the lower left corner of the window
the fonts should then show above in the 'List of fonts' window
click OK

Thanks Owbist! I'll give that a try and let you know how it works for me.

And yes I do have XP....sorry for not mentioning what OS I was running :o(

open(unzip) see I said the words baffle me, I unzip the file, and the pages are there for me to work into a word document, and then into a pdf for ease in sending, but the editing isn't the same anymore, I get the pages in paint now, rather than just the unzipped format. I can click open with Microsoft Picture manager, and still get to the editing part to go to word document, but is another step added and I would like to go back to the short version of editing. I have all the facilities to unzip files, just am wondering why all of a sudden I have paint program when I want to just plain edit the pages I have. this is all Greek to me, too much to take in, and as long as I can still edit, tho it takes longer, will stick with what I have, perhaps someday it will rite itself? You know, every time I run into problems, I kick myself, for ever getting acquainted with a computer, had I known what a hoodo it would be for me to work with, I never would have gotten into this. I enjoy it a great deal, but sometimes it is just overwhelming to me. I am a laborer, not a secretary, and hard to work with this sort of stuff. Thanks to all for your help, appreciate your interest in my problem, maybe I can find my magic wand and wave it?

Try Swap it! Encrypt it! ItÃ¯Â¿Â½s the fastest and cheapest way to send large files. They offer a no membership based service. Basically you pay for the file size(s) you need to send and nothing more. You can use Swap it! Encrypt it! to send files fast between computers or mobile (iPhone, BlackBerry etcÃ¯Â¿Â½) devices (you can even send files directly from your mobile device). They have a free service too called Swap it! Encrypt it! Lite. I hope this helped a little, I know itÃ¯Â¿Â½s a real pain in the ass when you have to pay a ton to move lots of files. The vivienne files has a lovely aqua and black capsule wardrobe, Maire cate! I am decidedly not a size zero, so you may well be Impressed at the number of garments in the bag :-) I am not a roller, I tried that method once or twice and it was a hot mess to get things out--- any time you want an item you have to completely unpack and repack. If I am staying in a hotel longer than one night I unpack almost completely, hanging everything and putting other things in drawers. But I usually use the packing cube thingies from Eagle Creek and ebags. I will use a medium or large zippered packing bag for all my slacks, another for all the tops, a small cylindrical one for undies and socks, another for scarves, etc. that way when I want a shirt I can just take that cube out and not disturb everything else. I put these cubes in drawers as is unless something would benefit for being hung up. Alternatively, if we are going on a trip requiring a lot of dressing up, I will pack complete outfits individually in those space bag thingies. That way I have not only the clothes, but the stockings, shoes, jewelry, any special underwear, etc. in one package. Those are the bags you ziplock and then roll it up to,squeeze all the air out, then unroll it to lie very flat. It's amazing how unwrinkled clothes are when packed in those space bags!

How do you color fonts?

I have a couple lettering programs that color "alphabets" (they are not true type fonts). One is called Creative Lettering by Creating Keepsakes, and the other is Lettering Delights, by Inspire Graphics. These are truely awesome programs, and come with som many different alphabets (but you couldn't color one that didn't come with the program). You can usually get the programs on ebay for a good price....Look for the Combo CD's for the best value. The Creative Lettering program lets you color the letters however you want- the Lettering Delights letters are premade like this one: Also you can d/l a free demo version of "Brush Lettering" from PC Crafter..it is somewhat limited in what it can do - but it is fun to play with. Owbist it worked with a few changes *lol* I unzipped the files and drag/dropped them into a folder I named "fonts". Then I went to "My Computer", clicked on the fonts icon and went to the top and opened "file". There I found the "Add Fonts" and clicked on it. The box opened and I tried to find my fonts folder. No matter what I did or clicked on it just would not open the area of My Documents where I had the folder. I noticed my cd/dvd drive was listed so I closed out of everything and made a cd of the fonts! Now when I went back and started over I just clicked on my cd/dvd drive, clicked "select all", hit "ok" and that was it!! Worked like a charm :o)

Out of curiousity I open my PhotoShop Elements, opened a photo to play with, hit the font icon and they were now listed in the font list!! I'm a happy camper!!

Thank you so much for your help and I hope this helps someone else too.

Thanks for letting us know it worked for you Mary.

Often advice given on forums such as this is read by many others who do indeed gain from the threads. This is why I find it upsetting that some fail return to their threads to let others know it worked - or did not work, no one really knows if the problem was fixed.

Owbist, I couldn't agree with you more about reporting back!! So many times I have done a search, found the subject, but no report back on a solution. I appreciate it when someone does post back and lets everyone know what the out come was.

BTW, I found putting the fonts on a cd made it very simple and besides I can now get them on my laptop (which is not networked to my desktop) just as easy. The cd makes it a win-win solution :o)
