Fonts/Zipped file Question

I have downloaded some new fonts and have no idea how to get them into my font folder. I did do some research and drag/drop seems to be the easiest way. Any advise?

Also the files are zipped so how do I extract the fonts so I can drag/drop them? Do I need winzip to do that? I'm really lost on this one and any help would be appreciated.

If you have XP double click on each zipped font to extract it to a folder of your choice.

Once that is done click Start
click Control Panel
click Font
in the new window click File at the top
click Install new font
find the folder in the lower left corner of the window
the fonts should then show above in the 'List of fonts' window
click OK

Thanks Owbist! I'll give that a try and let you know how it works for me.

And yes I do have XP....sorry for not mentioning what OS I was running :o(

Hmmmmmmmm, don't remember what caused that but it seems that I had the same problem long ago. Be sure to select your font and font size before you begin to type. If it reverts back all is not lost. Finish typing, then highlight the type, go back to the font list and select the type font you wanted and it will change it to that type face. You can also change the size of the font the same way.

They have a free service too called Swap it! Encrypt it! Lite. I hope this helped a little, I know itÃ¯Â¿Â½s a real pain in the ass when you have to pay a ton to move lots of files. The vivienne files has a lovely aqua and black capsule wardrobe, Maire cate! I am decidedly not a size zero, so you may well be Impressed at the number of garments in the bag :-) I am not a roller, I tried that method once or twice and it was a hot mess to get things out--- any time you want an item you have to completely unpack and repack. If I am staying in a hotel longer than one night I unpack almost completely, hanging everything and putting other things in drawers. But I usually use the packing cube thingies from Eagle Creek and ebags. I will use a medium or large zippered packing bag for all my slacks, another for all the tops, a small cylindrical one for undies and socks, another for scarves, etc. that way when I want a shirt I can just take that cube out and not disturb everything else. I put these cubes in drawers as is unless something would benefit for being hung up. Alternatively, if we are going on a trip requiring a lot of dressing up, I will pack complete outfits individually in those space bag thingies. That way I have not only the clothes, but the stockings, shoes, jewelry, any special underwear, etc. in one package. Those are the bags you ziplock and then roll it up to,squeeze all the air out, then unroll it to lie very flat. It's amazing how unwrinkled clothes are when packed in those space bags!

Email will vary a lot with the email client used. I use PopPeeper and often don't use HTML or rich text so it wouldn't show. It'll sometimes show the HTML tags and be hard to read. With Vista, you can put fonts into any folder, go to the font, right click it and click install and it'll install the font for you. You don't have to worry about putting it in a special folder. That way I just copy that folder to the other computer and add them as needed. Yes it's a good idea to limit fonts but it's not as critical as it used to be. It's a good idea to uninstall fonts you don't use though. Really, a person doesn't need hundreds of fonts on their system. Often there's many that are so close they're nearly identical so it's a waste to keep all of them on there. FWIW, some programs, like Word will allow you to embed the font into the document so it'll go with the file if you bring it to a system without the font. I have this set as default to save the entire font and not just what's in the document. That way I can edit if needed and have the font available.

Owbist it worked with a few changes *lol* I unzipped the files and drag/dropped them into a folder I named "fonts". Then I went to "My Computer", clicked on the fonts icon and went to the top and opened "file". There I found the "Add Fonts" and clicked on it. The box opened and I tried to find my fonts folder. No matter what I did or clicked on it just would not open the area of My Documents where I had the folder. I noticed my cd/dvd drive was listed so I closed out of everything and made a cd of the fonts! Now when I went back and started over I just clicked on my cd/dvd drive, clicked "select all", hit "ok" and that was it!! Worked like a charm :o)

Out of curiousity I open my PhotoShop Elements, opened a photo to play with, hit the font icon and they were now listed in the font list!! I'm a happy camper!!

Thanks for letting us know it worked for you Mary.

Often advice given on forums such as this is read by many others who do indeed gain from the threads. This is why I find it upsetting that some fail return to their threads to let others know it worked - or did not work, no one really knows if the problem was fixed.

Owbist, I couldn't agree with you more about reporting back!! So many times I have done a search, found the subject, but no report back on a solution. I appreciate it when someone does post back and lets everyone know what the out come was.

BTW, I found putting the fonts on a cd made it very simple and besides I can now get them on my laptop (which is not networked to my desktop) just as easy. The cd makes it a win-win solution :o)
