ever had this happen... sore throat question

For the past week I have been feeling okay during the day, but while I am sleeping I develop a sore throat. When I wake up my throat is sore. As I continue the day the soreness diminishes and by mid day/afternoon it is gone. I don't have a cold or any other symptoms... anyone ever heard of this or experienced it? Seems deeper than a sore throat though... not really in back of mouth but more behind adams apple. Thanks!

I have that happen sometimes if I sleep with the window open. The window is near my head.

It can happen from snoring or mouth-breathing. It can also happen from reflux.

Kerdragon I use tea tree oil a lot. For sore throats, salt water does best immediately, but it does not last long. I get mouth sores and the only thing that works is tto.A few drops in 1/4 cup water and gargle and hold for as long as you can stand it. I don't swallow it but if some dribble down your throat, its OK. It works for me first time, every time. I don't think it works for a sore throat, because I had a mouth sore, used it and my throat seemed sore, got sorer and developed into a cold. I did use tto several times and it had no beneficial effect on the sore throat.Good luck, Gloria

This happened to me years ago and although it’s an old thread, I wanted to comment in case it help anyone. I experienced the same symptoms as most on this thread- I went to see all kinds of specialists but when I finally went to my general doctor, he fixed me. Literally made a difference in 15 min. He is a general practitioner but also certified to do manipulations which is different than a chiropractor. He did tests to see if I may have MS or carpel tunnel. But those target specific fingers. He then made me stand up and checked my back. BOOM! I had three ribs out of place. Finally after 6+ months of my right hand tingling and bruising, I had an answer. Dislocated ribs sometimes don’t cause pain BUT if they pinch the right nerve, it can cause all the symptoms to your arm and fingers. Popped blood vessels etc. he adjusted me (again, different from a chiropractor) and within 15 min I felt relief in my arm hand and fingers. Now, anytime I feel tingling, I go see him and sure enough, my rib is out. People can displace ribs with a sneeze. Sometimes it causes pain and other times you can’t even tell. A miracle for me.

Sore throat is a "rare" side effect of Plaquenil (see link below). I took it for my RA for awhile and had my vision tested every 3 months by an Optomologist due to possibility of blindness. I also took gold shots which I regret. It caused me more health problems. I haven't taken ANYTHING since 1998. I don't take painkillers, anti-inflammatories, etc. I have enough to deal with with the RA that I don't need more health problems caused by these drugs. In fact, I feel better now than I did in 1998! For the person who said she takes Flaxseed oil. My naturopath did not recommend it cuz it's a "rancid oil", as is spinach is rancid too. You are better to take flaxseed as a "seed", not an oil. Also, pineapple is a natural anti-inflammatory as it contains bromelain. If u have high blood pressure, then it's not recommended. I'm amazed at the commercials that advertise RA drugs and tell you the possible side effects..."some cancers have been reported"... who would take them??? Gold shots caused me to become anemic and have possible blood cancer (myloma) cuz it caused my kidneys to leak protein in my blood. Something my rheumatologist failed to tell me! I have to get blood test every 6 months just to check. Nothing is going to take ALL your pain away. You will always have it. You just have to learn to live with it. I've had it for 16 years now. Pain management is a very important part of daily life and makes a huge difference. I know this guy who has RA and has tried all the meds, procedures, etc. He looks fine on the outside, but his insides are finished because of all the drugs. As for me, my hands are crippled up but my insides are fine! Believe it or not, marijuana is the only thing that takes the pain away. Unfortunately, I get paranoid so I don't smoke it. I've tried morhpine, perks, etc. Didn't help! Smoked a joint once and I was able to run a little bit (didn't realise I was LOL), and I was able to walk barefoot without pain in my feet. I had severe sinusitis for at least 5 months. Three rounds of antibiotics and prednisone didn't touch it. My ENT (finally was referred there) was surprised that I didn't have a sore throat, but I did have headaches every day, ear aches, eye pain, toothaches, you name it. Very debilitating. Ended up having sinus surgery in Sept. and I am still recovering from that, very slow healing. Also been diagnosed with allergies, which I think may be slowing the healing. But, no more pain and no more infection. If mononucleosis doesn't check out, I sure recommend seeing an ENT.

I agree with catherinet that you may be snoring or sleeping with your mouth open.
While I dont snore,I have been known to sleep with my mouth open (and even drool a bit on my pillow,eww) and I sometimes have the same problem.

That happens to me too if I have the window open or a fan on. Usually this time of year allergies are bad, you are probably having a reaction to pollen of some sort.

ok, let's put all the posts together...since I think we're really all saying the same thing...LOL

You left your window open during the strongest allergy time..thus allowing more pollen and such to enter your room. This will often lead to your nose getting stopped up and you having to substitute mouth breathing during the night, which leads to a sore throat in the morning which will diminsh during the day.

If closing the window itself doesn't help, you may want to talk to your doctor about a seasonal nasal spray unless you just want to tough it out until June.

Coincidentally, I just had my 3 yr old at the Dr.'s for an a.m. sore throat for the last week or two; he looked in his nose said he didn't have a cold that it was allergies, didn't run any more tests just put him on Nasonex. I thought too it could have been reflux since he had a bad bout as an infant but, doctor said with the timing and season he was pretty sure it was allergies. Although if you have a reflux history, may want to consider that too.

Good luck; I don't know where you are from but it seems like almost everyone around here is having problems the past couple weeks. I think it is a really bad allergy/pollen year.

Well, I never open the window and haven't had reflux before. I guess anything is possible... I've never had allergies but I know you can develop almost anything (allergies or reflux) overnight for some strange reason. Thanks for the advice!
