Several times -- My favorite 'paint' is actually nail polish, though I've also used regular semi-gloss trim paint and a Sharpie marker. Kind of depends on the color tile though.

We are getting this tile flooring installed as we speak. Thanks for the heads up on the care. If you don't mind, could you tell me how well it's held up after 2 years? Were you happy with the flooring when it was all laid? I must admit, the product that came (still boxed) looks way darker than the photos on the F&D website. Do you mind posting a picture?

KR, your floor looks great! M B, if I were you, I'd check what's being done in your neck of the woods, flooring-wise. A realtor in our area told me hardwood flooring is prized and gives homeowners a very high ROI. Might be worth the investment for you as well, depending on your location. I have tile in my kitchen and regret it tremendously. Next house/life, I'm limiting tile to entry and bathrooms. Laundry room will get vinyl. Never again will I get tile for the kitchen or any room where I might spend more than 15 minutes standing. (Full disclosure: I wear slippers in the house. Perhaps those who wear cushioned shoes in their tiled kitchen don't hate their floor. Perhaps I'll get around to wearing "inside" shoes one day.) Anyway, tile can be gorgeous and yes, it's fairly easy to maintain but the gosh darn thing has no give, just grout. (Today's grout is apparently easier to maintain.) I had read warnings about the eternal hardness of tile in a kitchen in this forum 14 yrs ago when we did our kitchen but dismissed them. To paraphrase U2: I was young, a bit dumb, just wishing to be blinded by tile... :) Anyway, sharing my experience in case it might help. Another consideration is trend cycles are much shorter for tile than hardwood. Good luck with your choice.

ci_lantro, thanks for the thoughts. I had thought about the steel angle being a potential, which I think essentially serves to not only protect the edge of the steps and landing, but was their pour-stop and form when the concrete was poured. And this angle had gone long without paint and was very rusted before it received a new coat of paint last year. But at the corner where the tile has really started to pop the concrete below the tile and adjacent to the angle appears to be in good condition (see on the far left near the corner). Concrete and steel actually have the same expansion coefficient so they normally behave the same with temperature differences, which is why steel makes such a good reinforcement for concrete. But when steel corrodes, it expands in a different way that could effect adjacent concrete. That's when rust jacking for instance causes the brick and mortar above a window to crack. But so far that doesn't seem to be the issue here to me. Regarding a design change, I think we definitely aren't looking to make huge changes to the configuration. It would end up being pretty costly too since the stoop is clearly integrated with the foundation of our home. The columns and door surround sit atop it and the whole thing has stayed tight and attached and at the same level as the rest of the house for the last 95 years. Here's a zoomed out view though for reference: I was actually hoping instead of plain concrete that we would find red quarry tile like we have in the sunroom, and matching the red clay roof rather than plain concrete under the tile.
