It will get easier

When my mother passed away it was very hard, you see we were never relly close until about one year before she passed.I found myself at the cemetary[sorry if spelling is bad] everyday.Well one day an older man came over to me and apologized for interrupting me and said to me it gets a little easier everyday but everyday you will still feel like it was only yesterday.This man had been there everyday for five years,never missing a day no matter what.It has been 11 years since my mom passed and I often ask myself will the pain ever go away.The other day the mans daughter was at the cemetary and stopped to speak to me. She told me the reason her father was not there was because he is very ill, and asked her if she seen me to tell me that it wasn't the pain I was feeling it was the memories that were still alive and to never ask for them to be gone. This touched me very hard and made me think, and yes it is when I think of things that happened good or bad that I cry the most. I guess what I learned is not to let the pain take away all the memories good or bad. They are part of the healing process.

So very true, and thank you so much for sharing. I'm sorry about your mom. I am also so glad that your mom and you became close before she died. What a blessing for you as well as her.

Wow. What a wise man to offer words like that. I'm very sorry for the loss of your mother and am glad to hear that you got closer in her last year. I can't imagine anyone wanting to fight to be rid of memories. I think that why some people try to forget is to avoid feeling and grieve openly. I don't want to forget...ever!

I don't care what anybody says (not really, just on this subject!), I've observed this for YEARS, I tells ya, since I was a little kid, and the north side of my houses and yards, and parking garages, and my friends' houses and the grocery stores, in late June and July, the sun goes further north than straight up over us! Even if a building faces dead-straight due north. Of course, this is the wrong time of year to go out and observe it, but you just watch next summer. That's MY story, and I'm sticking with it, PC! Even amid the slings and arrows and dirt clods...

Hi Linda! I've been thinking of you often this week, and i feel for you. knowing the way our government works, i think i would put her name of that waiting list, and who knows how long it will be before her name comes up (i for instance have had my name on a waiting list for respite care for exactly 4years and one week!), at least you have your name there and you can always say no and then your name goes on again. i know here that the city owned nursing homes have a 3 year waiting list, because i eaves dropped on the lady beside al in emerg. last time he was in. i also remember the dear,dear man who lives across the street from us, he was forgetful, couldn't remember the way to the golf course, i mentioned this to his son who came to vist one summer, and told him his dad didn't want me to tell anyone, but i did out of love for this dear man. they took him to the doctor and he had the early stages of Alz. obviously he got worse, and i remember that sad day when they packed his suitcase and told him they were going on a short trip, and i never saw him again, they put him in the psych. hospital here - when it was open. he was so nice, loved the kids give me pernnials (of which i have named one of my pernnial beds "Tony's garden" and he was just like a dad to me. he did live at the psych. hospital for years and finally passed on. sorry for rambling on here, but i guess what i'm saying is with the mcguinty government the way it is, i think i would put my name down and worry about it when your name comes up. cloudy wet snow and waiting for spring! debbie

Forutnately I didn't have to murder anyone this morning or spike my coffee with vodka. My builder took one look at the crown molding that was delivered and agreed wholeheartedly that the supplier screwed up. The supplier showed up about 15 minutes later and took the blame like a big boy and owned up to not matching the sample of the crown I provided with what was delivered to their warehouse - they just brought it out ASSumming it was the same profile. Minor blip but frustrating when the trim crew was supposed to be finishing up today! My builder really is pretty awesome - when the framer charged us a higher per sq. foot rate than we were led to believe he was charging, my GC stepped up and ate the difference of about $3,000. We didn't even get a chance to ask or complain - Mo just said that the framer charged us more per sq/ft than we had budgeted and he thought it was only fair that he cover that difference since I had been asking for clarification on the costs from the start. He ate the cost of our roof repair where the masons put holes all around the chimney to the tune of about $1000 without us asking, too.

Tresw and Airorne, thank you, and I remember you both replying to my previous thread regarding the same problem. I will go out right now and put a marble on the pavers and see what it does. Should it roll AWAY from the pool? (That makes sense, but I didn't know if it should be an 'obvious' roll.) Like I said, we contracted the whole thing ourselves. So I'm not sure where to start to find problems. It would seem to me that the paver people would have double checked the grade before they did their work, but who knows. Tresw, you know a lot about salt...and I know you've told me not to 'trust' the reading on my Aqualogic, but is that number ANYWHERE reliable? After last week's "wash out", I drained the 2-3 inches from the top and had to add 80 lbs of salt. That put me back around 2900 (according to display.) Now, with yesterday's "wash out", I'm back to "check system, low salt". I'm obviously losing a lot of water with the overflow, but is that enough to need that much salt every couple of weeks? I read, or someone told me early in my bereavement that I wouldn't always hurt this badly (as I was hurting at that moment). This has proven to be true. At first I was angry with the words, I WANTED to hurt over my loss. I didn't want to feel better. But time goes by and eventually, little by little, I found my grief wasn't as bad as when fresh. Still there, yes, right below the surface, ready to grip me and make me breathless and start the tears, but not all the time.

Now, it's all I can say to people with new grief--I'm so sorry and it won't always hurt this badly.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. Your experience with the man at the cemetery was very touching. How wonderful for him, even in his grief, to reach out to you with such wonderful and heartfelt feelings.

dian57~ Your words touched my heart!! You explained exactly how I have been feeling this week. My mom died 2 years ago and I have been thinking of her so much this week, that I just broke down in tears today. You put it into words that explain it so well ~"Still there, yes, right below the surface, ready to grip me and make me breathless and start the tears, but not all the time. "
