Did the doctors ever bother to culture it? You need to find out what it is before you do something that could spread it elsewhere. If it is MRSA, Dakin's Solution might help, but that is a mixture of chlorine with a buffer. Strong stuff. You would have to consult a wound control person, there are such specialists, re. how to apply safely. There are also infection control people, but they generally require a referral. 100% chlorine is needed to kill some MRSA's, but it can be very destructive to other tissue and you definitely couldn't use that in a Neti pot. It needs to irrigated with something strong; "irrigation" could be the key word in seeking a specialist that could help. Try an ENT specialist (ear, nose, and throat), who could work directly with an infection control and wound control person. Sometimes ENT peolple will "pack" the sinuses with things, too. You really need to work with an ENT. When you work with the right specialist, all kinds of new possibilities present themselves.

Ya I am on levaquin now for the infection. The doc sprayed stuff in there to numb everything and went to town with a scope and suckting thing, not fun, but I guess I feel better from that now. I had a really bad infection at the end of last semester, so much that then ended up doing a spinal tap to make sure it wasn't menengitus. So that is why I got this surgery. I just can't wait to be healed up and good to go again. Which should be somewhat soon. At least it has to be, I am moving back to school this sat, and classes start monday. Also I have to finish my assignment to reade and review 50 childrens books. lol I was supposed to have a lot of free time after surgery that I would be able to read. And on to that now.

I was treated for months for sinus infection back in 1979 & finally went to allergist. But my allergies that cause most problem don't show up on tests. Allergic to AC, cigarette smoke & weather changes. I feel it every time a storm is coming in at Santa Barbara or coming up from Mexico. I get deathly ill from BBQ smoke, fires in hills near my home, I leave if possible until the smoke is gone otherwise I'm in bed 3-4 days. It is migraines that I get from these things. About the congestion the eye, ear, nose & throat specialist taught my DH & I a neat thing that might help you get some of that congestion out. DH had terrific earaches all his life & even with antibiotics wasn't clearing up. You hold your nose shut with 2 fingers & then try to blow out, keeping your mouth shut. You should feel your ears kind of "pop" Do that several times each day to release the gunk. Friend at church had 3 rounds of meds & was still lousy & tried this trick & it really cleared it up finally so she didn't have to take anything else. Dr. said that stuff really can't move itself out & this helps it release & go on out. Good Luck!

My husband went to our family doctor and they said he had a sinus infection. This was around Thanksgiving of last year. We both then got the flu bug on top of his sinus infection and were sick until about the 2nd week in February. We didn't think we were ever going to get over the flu and the weakness (needless to say, we will be getting the flu shots this winter). Anyway, back to the sinus infection...sorry, I got off track. They gave him Z Pack for 5 days which was like taking candy for him. He was then put on an antibiotic...sorry, can't remember the name. He took two different prescriptions and went back to the family doctor and was given a third prescription. Wouldn't you think by now that none of this stuff is working? On top of this, he has high blood pressure & they keep pumping him with antibiotics that aren't working. He never got better and we went to an Ear, Nose & Throat doctor in the same building. This doctor told him that sometimes antibiotics won't work for sinus infections and my husband had to go back 2 times for shots in his hips. These were $150 a shot. He was also given a prescription nasal spray and in a week, he felt so much better. He said this was the best he had felt since Thanksgiving. Morale of the story: go see an ENT doctor if you think you have a sinus infection.
