Wood floors with 3 cats and a small dog - dumb?
Comments (11)We have Pergo in the family room and as earlier poster mentioned our lab can't get a grip when he's in a hurry and/or excited to see someone. Actually we get a little concerned for his safety. The Pergo holds up very well however. We debated what we were going to do in the living/dining/foyer area and went back and forth between engineered wood and laminate. We eventually decided on wood but understood that with a lab the floor was going to "experience" some trauma (scratches, etc...). And yes we have some scratches but we really like the wood flooring vs laminate. There are some nice looking laminates out there however. If you can't live with scratches on your wood floor then don't get wood. Only having one floor with laminate I can only give you our sense and that is the laminate is pretty bullet-proof but I've seen other posts where the laminate did not hold up. Not sure if that is grade/mfg. related or what.... Whatever you decide, don't look back and second guess yourself or you'll drive yourself crazy. Took us a while to finally come to a decision, good luck Dom...See MoreWood floors that aren't hand-scraped
Comments (2)I wont go and recomend any brands because theres way too many. Plus for 5/ft i really dont know much off the top of my head. But you can always get straight engineered and then personally distress it yourself. Even though i always thought the distressed looks silly but thats just me....See MoreThoughts about putting a treadmill on wood floors?
Comments (10)We have a commercial type treadmill on our hickory floors. Underneath there is a rubber mat that was made specifically for exercise equipment. As rubber isn't recommended for wood floors, I placed a cut to size old cotton sheet under the mat. I haven't had any problems in over 10 years. The treadmill is heavy enough that it doesn't budge. Hope that helps!...See MoreRecommendations for Duraseal wood floor stain for red oak
Comments (26)G & S Floor Service - Will Nutmeg come out orangey on Red Oak? My husband would like to go lighter and doesn't mind a golden or reddish tone as he likes the look of a cherry woodd color but I really want more of a brown. Would Medium Brown work well? I would go for Jacobean but my husband is averse to how dark it is. He would probably be happy with chestnut or provincial and a cinnamon colored floor. :-) I would truly appreciate hearing from you as I have to give my floor guy 4 choices of stains to try out today!...See Moreuniquewoodfloors
