Not quite grieving...

My cusion has cystic fybrosis (sorry if thats spelt wrong), i dont even understand what it is and no one will tell me. Anyway, i am really close to my cusion and i am going to miss him as he is going to die within the year... he isnt my real cusion he is my foster cusion, but no the less i really will miss him :(... he is like my last realitive i am close to...

i really dont know how to deal with the fact he will be gone soon... i really really want advice on how to cope when he is gone... im only 14 and i have lost my whole family and now i dont want to lose someone else...

Yes, you will be very sad when your cousin dies. Spend time with your cousin. Let him know that you will miss him. Hug your cousin as often as you can. In your own loving way, say goodbye to him. My heart goes out to you. You will be glad later on if you are able to be loving and honest with your cousin and yourself while there is still time. You will miss your cousin--you will be very sad. Let yourself feel those feelings, it's ok to feel sad. It is ok to let people that are in your life right now, know how you feel.

I'm sorry about your cousin's illness. I am so sorry that you feel all alone in this life and especially after he is gone. I agree with BrassTacks. Let him know how much you love him and do all you can for him now. You don't want to have any regrets later. No one will ever take the place of those whom we love who have gone before us, but there are many other people in this world whom we can love and be close to. There are a lot of very lonely people in this world who would love to have you as a friend. Someday, you will meet someone whom you will want to marry and spend the rest of your life with. You will also be able to have your very own children who will love you and you will love them more than you've ever loved anyone in this world. Don't give up on life. Although we all would rather keep our loved ones here with us, that's not the way it works in this life. You can always keep your cousin in your heart when he is no longer with you, and you will see him again someday when God is ready to take you to heaven.
We will be here for you.

Well, I'm home - in my pajamas, having just indulged in my idea of total comfort food (DH made me a grilled cheese sandwich), and I'm just going through some things here in the home office. Today was a long day ... a good day ... but so draining. The service was lovely; I was surprised at how many attended, especially since Grannie and Grandaddy have outlived many, if not most, of the friends in their circle - still, the chapel was full. The flowers were beautiful and the photos displayed of her at the front were so precious. My favorites were her high school graduation photo (today I wore the little gold bracelet she had received from her parents on graduating in 1934 that she wore in the photo - she was the first in her family to receive her diploma - as well as her jingly charm bracelet), and a portrait taken perhaps a year or two later in which she looked like a silver screen star. She was so beautiful. Of course, I always just knew her as "my Grannie", so it's fascinating for me to consider what her life must have been like as a young woman. It was sweet today to hear stories of what she was once like. How, for instance, she showed herself to be a thoughtful sister when she got up early one Sunday morning before church and polished her sister's shoes, so their mama wouldn't find out that the sister had been out dancing the night before. She looked out for others, always. It was good to see family and friends, both old and new. It was a delight to hold my 8-month old second cousin and watch his brown eyes dance as he took in all the activity around him. It was bittersweet to hold the hand of my Grandaddy. I know it won't be too long before we're repeating this whole process for him. ::sigh:: The readings and sharing of memories during the service, both my own and the parts of other family members, went beautifully. Of course we were emotional. And it was ok. It was an emotional time, so perfectly fine. I think Grannie would have been pleased. I hope that somehow, somewhere, she was able to know that we were there today, honoring her life. Again, I cannot thank you all enough for the outpouring of love and support that you've given me here. It means more to me than I can possibly even express. You are very special people indeed.

I just lost my husband of 34 years suddenly to a heart attack and I see what my 28 yr old son is going through. You need to hug and kiss and tell your dear husband how much you love him. If he's not a touchy feeling kind of guy just be there for him and DON'T take anything he says personally. Those words are only the grief coming out, he will regret those one day and you don't want to make it worse on him or yourself. I'd recommend seeing a grief counselor for you and your husband (if your husband won't go you go, and if you don't see one you like keep looking until you find one you do or talk to your ob dr.), and discuss these issues separately with the counselor if necessary especially if it sets him off. As for you needing help during this pregnancy, is there a friend or family member you can rely on? If so call them immediately. At this time everyone that knew your husband and/or is father wants to do what they can to help but you have to ask first, so don't be afraid to ask. God bless you dear

I am so sorry.. The pain is still fresh for the both of us.. Your website is beautiful! He would be proud of it, I'm sure.. Remember that he will be with you during graduation. Right next to you, look for a sign, I'm sure you will see something today..I have to remind myself that Dad wouldn't want me being sad..He didn't like that..He would always try to cheer me up..Remember those moments.. I'm facing a birthday party on Sun. that I'd rather not have..But I'd have a very disappointed 6 yr old little girl if I don't do it..He loved the kids and the parties, the kids were his drive in life, one of them..He would drive 2 hrs each way to come and visit sometimes for an hour and go home..Christmas will be tough too... We had the picture perfect Night before Christmas ritual going on. He would read that story, I would put the cookies in place and hang the stockings. He would hang around while I wrapped the presents and he would help me eat cookies. Last Christmas he was sick and in the hosptial from the 14th to Jan 5th or so..Little did I know, it would be his last..I questioned it, but everyone said I was overreacting, he'll be fine..Then in April, they tried to take out the cancer and found all through out his body! I was right!!! I'm having my moments too...Good luck today.. Keep in touch. Heather

It's "Cystic fibrosis" ... a lung problem.

Look it up on Google, and there are lots of sites about it.

I am very sorry about your cousin. Are you in foster care? You must have a case worker. If I were you, I would tell my case worker about my feelings, and ask if it would be possible for me to talk to a counselor. We all want to "fix" things, and feel so powerless when we can't. You sound like a very compassionate and kind person. Just being around your cousin and spending time with him is probably the best gift you can give him. He is lucky to have such a good and caring friend. I hope your case worker can help you find someone to help you.
