Genuine 1840s Renaissance Antique Dining Room Set
Comments (13)The set is late 1800's and it looks like original condition all right. I used to be in the importing business and we brought tons of this stuff in from Austria in the early 1970's. Some people still import it but the weak dollar has made it hard, I'm sure. It seems the people in Europe may have taken better care of their old stuff as I found many antiques over their that were in pristine condition. The climate may have helped too. Here in AZ. that leather would dry up in no time. Speaking of which the seats look like they may have been replaced. 35K is a lot of dough for that but then again I've been out of the high end furniture market for some time. I once sold Goldie Hahn and Kurt Russel a table and chairs for 18k that made that set look puny. It had no cabinets with it but the backs of the heavily carved, oak, chairs were four feet tall. The cabinets to this set would sell easy enough, possibly to a hotel or resturant but the table and chairs would not. Those kind of chairs were built for smaller Victorian era people. The furniture back then was well made and very heavy. No wonder my back is shot. Why didn't I sell knick knacks instead?...See MoreCan you tell me anything about this dining set?

Comments (2)I have a beautiful accent piece that is part of the Link Taylor Pine reproductions group for sale in Missouri. It would work well in a foyer, hall or smaller wall space. 766-974. mcortez@slsc.org...See Morewanting drapes for my dining room, link attached
Comments (7)Why not email the eBay seller and ask, explaining why you want to know? IME if eBay sellers don't respond well to questions, they're people you don't want to buy from in the first place because if they won't come through on that minor request, they're unlikely to cooperate if there is a problem. (Just as a FYI, though, a lot of these types of things are discontinued items purchased for a pittance on clearance or at outlets, so you may not be able to check it out in person. I picked up a few sets of discontinued JCPenney drapes for my LR at something like 80% off on eBay, and the seller still made a profit!) Seller seems a bit clueless to me though, since first s/he says "Sold in store for $89.00 a panel. I have never seen these go on sale!" and then a few lines down says "Sold in the stores for $119.00 per panel" - that's a 25% difference, get your story straight! There's also conflicting descriptions of what you get, first s/he says it's two panels and then "sold per panel", and an unscrupulous seller could say that the per-panel description was the one that was correct. I'd be a tad twitchy about this one just for sheer carelessness, but that's just me. If you really want these, confirm by email that it's two panels, not one....See Moregreta87
