need new ideas for Christmas gifts for 16 grandchildren

We have 16 grandchildren ranging from 1 year to 20 years old. We decided this year to spend $20 on each one. The older ones we will give cash and the younger ones we will give gifts. We decided last year to buy one nice gift for each of the little ones and they seemed disappointed they only got one gift. This year we can't think of anything different.

We need some new ideas for Christmas for the 16 grandchildren. Any ideas.

Disposable cameras! Kids of all ages love them. They are often on sale, some come with flashes while some come without. They are way less than the $20, but you could buy a little photo album and/or a gift cert to the store to cover the processing cost. (This is exactly what my parents did for their 13 grandkids and it was a big hit).

Hi: With my young grandchildren, ( up to 7 or so) I take them to our local Dollar Tree and give each of them $1.00. Then I watch to see what they put back on the shelf but still want. Usually they fall in love with a few things. Also, I have found some great gifts at Big Lots for the younger ones. All my little ones seem to want some form of microphone that they can sing or talk into and have it broadcast. I found one at Big Lots for just under $10.00. Would never have guessed the boys wanted something like that, but they do. With your older ones, Best Buy or Amazon.com gift certificates are a good choice. My grandsons are all very blessed in that their folks can give them everything. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas. Monica in TX

I love the ones I got this Christmas. Unfortunately the posts do not come with the flags. So I have been looking for them. I will save the flags now for Mother's Day since I can't find the posts/stakes. Think once this Xmas thing is over, the stores will start bringing them out. Pike might have them too. Last yr. I made my g'kids calendars with pics of them & our activities tog from the year...but instead of just doing a pic, I printed off "coloring sheets" ... you can do this in some software programs ...and then I took it to a copyshop where I had the plastic circular spinal binding put on...think it was like $3 each or something like that. Anyway, the "coloring-book pics" are kind of funny cause they turn cartoonish...& the kids enjoyed looking at them...as well as the adults. Just an idea...you have a good one, too...altho I don't know if the 4 yr or 7 yr can appreciate how good your idea is! Time flies for us it seems but 2-l/2 wks. until Christmas is an ungodly amt. of time for my 9 yr. old GS! Of if my 12 yr old GD had a $25 shopping spree coming in May, I don't think she could stand the wait! Good luck with your project! Jeanne S. In response to the accountant remark, its not the IRS, its the state and not an income tax audit. I have paid a CPA $11k to do a forensic audit on me and according to them the state owes me $4k. This state is going after anything they can get so they won't have a shortfall. They hired 49 new auditors for this. It was a sales tax audit. I was told 20 years ago not to tax on vehicles by the DMV because I an not a dealer. They were wrong. I have to pay the sales tax on all the cars I have sold through my business. I have 11 people I know going through the same thing. The reason it has taken 3 years is they kept asking for extensions because they are short handed. So thanks but no thanks for your smart a$s comments, you have no clue what you are talking about.

I assume that since it's couples there's no kids involved unless you're from the south somewhere! ;) And if you know the Springer 800 number I *don't* want to know about it! For a generic gift often something like a bottle of wine, a jug of booze, gift cards or the like are good. Basket of good chocolates with some cheese, crackers, sausage type things are usually good. For gift cards I really encourage using the prepaid credit cards rather than a specific place card. That way if they need gas, would like to go out, need groceries, would like to rent movies or even if they want to put it toward a new TV, it'll usually work rather than having to make a point of going to a particular place and spend that amount. The other thing could be a gift certificate for Amazon, Netflix or something. Gifts are so unique to the person the only real generic ones are going to be cash, food or booze. Hopefully they're not too picky. Unless you're doing a key exchange! ;)

Teach them that Christmas is Christ's birthday, not theirs Pick out any charitable organization and make donations in their names.

I feel a young child doesn't need the burden of the donation to an organization he/she knows nothing about. IMHO I wouldn't want to receive a gift like that myself. I think it is better to just give to the org and leave the others out of it.IMHO
I have given a gift as small as $5 that was a big hit. I tightly rolled up each $1 bill and tied a red string around it and then put 5 in a tiny box. the kids were delighted. The promise of a trip to the Dollar store to spend it if they want will also go over big.

I like the disposable camera idea--I know that the thrill of being the one to pick what to take a picture of what a neat thing.

As far as the "disappointment over only 1 present" problem goes, you have 2 paths: 1) let them adjust; 2) give them 2 presents.

Your choice, I think; either is fine. You can make the second present something silly and inexpensive.

(I give my kids a box of cereal for Christmas each year--Cocoa Puffs, or Rainbow Rice Krispies, or something else that I might not get them anyway. It's big and colorful and sweet, and it goes away after they eat it, and they get to have fun eating "their present" for several days. If you're a member of a warehouse club, a HUGE box is about $7; at the grocery store, a regular large box runs about $6)
