I know, I know. i am months and months premature but this is just such a great idea that I thought I would share.

This all starts with marble samples that are either 12"x12" or 16"x16". We have been packing these around for over 20 years and have moved them with us several times. I have no idea where they came from as we have never considered them for any of the kitchens we built or remodeled. Gorgeous veining and colors. One day I was complaining about the lack of area to set hot things in my currently very tiny kitchen. My DH grabbed those, stuck some rubber feet on the back and voila! Instant trivet!! This got me to thinking how cool it would be to find the right stone sample for the right person, put feet on it and give it to them as a fancy kitchen gift. It would work well for those people that don't have or cannot afford a full countertop of it.

It has me looking at samples with a new eye.
