Thank you all, my dear, dear friends. Yesterday we had one of those days here at our house -- no water for 36 hours, Freya sneaking a pizza off the kitchen counter, and the smell of fresh polyurethane pervading the cold, damp house.... On the other hand, I had the loving affection of Tom and my DS Jacob, calls and cards from family, and greetings from all of you. And tonight we're going out to dinner to try celebrate again. Carla, Luanne, Jon, Anita, Lori, Ingrid, Sue, Carolina, Pamela, and Carol -- each one of your messages brought smiles and memories to my mind. I just realized that with the exception of Ingrid, I know each one of you in the Real World (as opposed to online) -- Ingrid, we'll just have to correct that soon. Aww, thank you all so much for the great birthday wishes! It was a gorgeous day this year as Jessy mentioned. Much better than last because it was raining then & we cancelled what we had planned to do. Can never count on the weather in early March. This year, the day was sunny with clouds moving around - so pretty. We drove about an hour north of Los Angeles to Oxnard, a small beach town, & had a champagne brunch looking out at a sailing channel that had pelicans diving straight down into it. Then back to my daughter's who had a red velvet chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting waiting. A lovely day. :) Thanks again for thinking of me!

THANK YOU ALL! It is raining today, which cancelled a drive to the coast for pier-walking & lunch. Oh well, I never count on decent weather this time of year, & the rain is always needed here. We are going to dinner this evening with DD to a small place that has really good food & which we don't frequent as often as we should.

Mmmm, your dinner choice looks good, that menu hit me right at the top with the Mushroom and Asparagus Salad. I'm not so sure about the smoked chicken macaroni and cheese, though....

Well, dinner was mixed, I thought. DH had Caesar salad & hanger steak, DD had asparagus tempura, which was excellent, & the Italian sausage & fusilli. I had the smoked chicken with macaroni & cheese, & think I agree with Annie. The flavors just didn't seem to meld. However, I brought at least half of it home & will have it for lunch tomorrow to give it a second chance.

For a surprise, DD made that $44 Crack Pie that I posted about a few weeks ago. Boy, is it sweet. The cookie crust is great, but the filling is so sugary to my taste. Pretty good, but not worth $44, we thought.

Annie, I think of you every time I open the pantry & see the bay leaves lying around. DH finally asked if there is a reason for them to be there. :)

Thanks again to all of you for your good wishes! Nice to have a birthday on the weekend, isn't it, Kathleenli?
