Do you fill out warranty cards?

I never fill them out and wouldn't bother with things such as a hair dryer but I probably should for larger items (main appliances - stove etc.)

My Dyson animal wasn't plugged in the wall right the other night and it wouldn't turn on. I went into a panic. After that I dug through the book to see I never filled the card thing out but after reading discovered they also want the original receipt if something were to happen. It was a gift. I just now saw that and I'm sure they don't have the receipt anymore as it's three years old now.

So how about you? Do you? And can you fill them out a few years after the fact?

We bought our appliances new from a local Mom and Pop store. They're good with service so I'm not really worried about them. The vacuum is a different story.

I usually opt for on-line warranty registration. And I try to remember to tape the receipt to the instruction manual. And when i am super-organized, I write the serial number on the instruction manual.

We don't unless it's a high dollar item like the HDTV.

It's a good way for these companies to make some extra bucks. :)

I've whittled my list down over the years, to a smaller number for several reasons. I don't like to send cards without a personal note of some sort inside and because of my business, this is one of my busiest times of the year and there are time constraints. I don't like to put people into the position of sending cards as an obligation. It should be a joy. I feel I've likely done them a kindness by dropping them from my list. I replace a Christmas card with a note or card some other time of the year. They can respond....or not. I've lost a good many relatives and friends over the years simply through death and the list goes smaller each year. That's the hardest one. The price of postage is getting prohibitory when you can only send two cards for a dollar.....one if it is going over the pond. I do not send out cards to my customers. If they're special to me, I'll make a trip to them and give them a gift.....but I dislike getting impersonal or imprinted cards made out by somebody's secretary. It just wastes a tree. If they have a good product, a card once a year doesn't matter or make them anymore likely to get my business. That given, my list is very personal and easy to handle now. I will choose (or make) a card I think is special. I don't look at the expense, but the thought presented. I'll be more likely to pick out cards for that reason so don't look for bargains. If they're inexpensive....fine. If they're pricey.........again fine. That means cards sent to make money for charities are considered. I'd rather the profit go toward a cause I support than a stockholder.

How do I clean out my auto-fill list?

My IE9/vista.. if I change a stored/existing autofill data field on a webpage.. as soon as I start typing the value I think.. it gives a drop down box to select the value from. Put your mouse over that value\ you want deleted.. push the keyboard delete key. Type in the new value & when submitted, IE should save it.

Thank you, everyone! Annie, all the cards that came with the box are offically filled! The last recipe was from Mom's old Betty Crocker cookbook (from the 70's I believe) for Starlight Cake (it sounds good, and I'm not much of a cake eater lol. I love the name of it too!). Good luck making your blueberry jam! You're welcome for the reminder! Some of the recipes took up two cards, like Strawberry Shortcake, both pickle recipes and Fried Green Tomatoes. I think I might write down one or two more before going to bed tonight. Remember, I just got another pack of cards today! They're the same design as before from the Dollar Tree and I lucked out because they only had one pack of that design left! :) Brad AKA Moonwolf

Brad, Thanks for the lemonade recipe and tips. DGS and I have found 3 meyer lemon trees in the woods where we hike. He always wants to make lemonade when we get home so I need a Grammy worthy recipe. At Peppi's urging, I documented my grandmother's recipe for spaghetti sauce that she brought from Italy and I have been eating since---maybe birth. I'm sure it's not to everyone's liking but in my family it is THE SAUCE. Anyway on subject--in an effort to save this family treasure on something other than a recipe card and in an effort to decorate with purpose (learned that from RiverRat), I am handwriting it and having it aged, enlarged, matted, and framed or put on canvas.

I also usually do the on-line registration. Graywings, my hubby does the same thing with serial numbers.

We keep receipts for everything since they did the sales tax option on income tax. Before that, we kept receipts on all appliances, small and large, furniture, etc. A few years back, I got organized and made files for that kind of stuff. It really comes in handy.

When we built our house - we had a briefcase that we kept all bills, invoices, receipts, etc. in. Still have it! LOL

It is my understanding that all you need is the receipt to prove purchase for a warranty issue with a product. You don't need to 'register' all those curling irons and toasters. Those registrations are just a gimmick for collecting marketing statistical information and mailing lists.

Never fill them out. I do keep receipts unless it's a cheap something or other.

Sickeningly organized I confess. Fill out all warranty cards online or mail in. Staple receipts to booklet or whatever insert comes with the said appliance and file in a drawer in my office. Has come in handy quite a few times but DH thought it wasn't really a necessary thing, yada yada, thought I'd gone round the bend at times when I am doing it. However, when our 5 yr old king mattress was ruined I did get a brand spanking new one because of the filed 10 yr warranty. He's less skeptical now, more of you go girl attitude.

dilly dally is right. Not filling out a registration card will not alter the terms of the warranty. In may come in handy if the product is recalled but primarily it's only for marketing.

You don't have to answer all the questions on the warranty card. And if i recall correctly, the on-line registration forms don't ask the marketing questions.
