Walnut floor installation
Comments (1)I do believe that the subfloor and wood floor need to be within 2% humidity of each other. Hopefully some experts will chime in!...See MoreWide plank walnut floor install options
Comments (4)suewoman- No pics yet but the contractor put down a 3/4 inch plywood sheet and is then putting down the walnut perpendicular to the joists underneath. Nothing special. The planks are just over 3/4 inch thick. I hear some of the reclaimed stuff is 1/2 inch and so maybe that requires something different. Where are you? We were going to use reclaimed wood until we found the original stuff. There is a great store in NY's Hudson River Valley in Pine Plains. Do a google for Pine Plains, NY and antique wood floors. They have really nice stuff....See MoreLove the look of Walnut...
Comments (22)We installed 5" Walnut unstained in our new home. They have two coats of Bona Traffic HD, which I hoped would at least mitigate any scratching. The problem is more of a DENTING. We have a very large golden retriever who has already done a wonderful job of "aging" the floors where he hangs out, getting up down and excited when we come home. We have tried dremelling his nail, which only mildly helps, putting tips on his nails, which come off, and booties, which come off and when they are on look ridiculous. The floors are gorgeous, but if you have large pets, or are bothered by denting/scratching, I would not recommend. Makes me so very sad, since I do love them. But love the dog, too. :(...See MoreHelp on Cabinet Stain Color - Cherry Wood
Comments (4)I also have Brazilian walnut for my flooring and my cabinets are cherry. I will post a pic of my kitchen, but if I were you I would go to a cabinet showroom or a big box retailer that sells cabinets. You might want to act as though you are still in the decision making process. Check out some cherry doors that you like and see what they look like in your house. Take them to a good paint retailer and have a stain custom mixed to match the stain on the door. If you end up picking out a door that has highlighting or glazing, then you may want to get a quote from a finisher. Your cabinet maker must know a good finisher for those customer that don't want to stain their cabinets. My cabinets were finished by the cabinet maker. I have also ordered cabinets from a local guy and that is what I did so I can match my mouldings and other woodwork I need stained. Here is a link that might be useful:...See Moremaggie530
