I'm usually just a lurker here but I thought I'd let you know that I have some experience with this. Last year was my first Halloween at this job and we do office trick-or-treating here. It's on a volunteer sign-up basis. You can opt-out, donate just candy, donate candy and be a trick-or-treat stop, and you can bring your kids into the office from 3-5pm. Basically our department shuts down between 3 and 5pm. Some people go all out and decorate their cubes and even dress up. The only rule is nothing too scary since there are a lot of very little kids. I signed up to donate candy and be a 'stop'. My kids are older so they won't be coming in. Our department secretary coordinated the volunteers and she had balloons placed in the trick-or-treating cubes so that the kids could see where they could stop for treats. They just had to look up and if there were balloons, they new exactly what to do! I brought in 2 jumbo mixed bags of candy and I stopped at the dollar store and picked up some trinkets - plastic rings, Halloween pencils, stuff like that. I decorated my cube but didn't dress up. The biggest hit was the plastic rings that I grabbed on a whim! Who would have guessed?? It was the best time! So many people were new here last year and didn't participate, and wished they did. I heard that there is close to 70% employee participation this year and we're talking about close to 100 employees - similar to your group! Someone set up a conference room with decorations and crayons and the kids could go there and hang out to sort their candy. Plus the adults took a break from work. I think we also had drinks and paper goods from the cafe in there, but i don't remember exactly. It really was a great time and I can't wait to do it again this year. Our office is doing it this Friday and we are all starting to put up our decorations tomorrow. Good luck!

I too agree on the 'game' during an adult party-with the exception of one quick one that has always create laughter in lg parties I've done. Simply, you have each table of seated people split in to 2 teams (the one, two manner), then have all of the 'ones' stand together in a circle on the dance floor. Ditto with the two team. Direct them to remove their shoes & throw them into the center of their circle. Once done-you or the emcee-step into the circle & mixes them all up in a pile. On the count of 3..everyone must scramble to find their shoes, put them on & the 1st team who completes the race...wins. I also had a caricature artist on hand who worked for a minimal fee for those who wanted one done. Something else I did was set up an area for a photographer to take pics of couples, or buddies at the party. It could be a well set, candle lit table for two-toasting w/champagne glasss-or something funny-like the 'boss's desk with a swivel chair and a side chair-posing the couple with the man sitting in the swivel chair, feet upon the desk & the gal taking a memo. A placard on the desk in big print says:"IT's MY TURN"! or something funny! Pics could be passed out later in the evening as souvineers.

I'm sorry I didn't get right back here. I was drug from my bedrest into hosting four guests for a couple of days. They've just left and I need a nap LOL Pesky the garden art is FABBBBBB I may just have to ask...oh heck I will, please tell us how you did it? Glue? What? I need need need to scatter those in the yard next year. They're perfect for this big old box....it needs humor! We're going to do another tea party for younger gals that's entirely silly with hats etc as a fund raiser as well. This one we'll keep old fashioned elegant. Pesky if you want to ditch anything in your stash I am sure I will put it to good use! I'll pay shipping of course and anything else ya want if it makes sense :) Thats so sweet of you. I'm lucky I have several months to plan. I will start hitting all of the thrifts in the area for tea cups (Mom we're talking pre 70's LOL) and other tea goodies. Our local habitat for humanity always has a lot of that stuff donated. I scanned ebay but their prices seemed a bit silly. You know, the one thing I need is one of those silly stacked plate things for goodies...but I can't remember the freaking name!!! Help?????? THough time consuming, these are always a fun addition to a tea party..... DECORATED SUGAR CUBES 1 egg white 1/ 8 tsp cream of tartar 1/ 4 tsp. almond extract 1 and 3/ 4 cups confectioners sugar food coloring Combine egg white, cream of tartar and extract. Blend sugar into mixture. Beat until icing hold stiff peaks. Divide and tint with coloring. Cover until used. Makes 1 cup. TO MAKE FLOWERS OR FRUIT ON SUGAR CUBES: With decorating tubes: Squeeze icing through small tips Without tubes: Double heavy waxed paper; roll into cone. Cut tip for small opening; squeeze icing through opening ********************************************************** Petit Fours Now to bake the cake, no special cake pans are required; a 9 inch round or square pan will work just fine. When the cake has completely cooled, cut it in half horizontally. A serrated knife works well for this; gently saw your way through. Brush the liqueur over the cut sides, and then fill with a thin layer of jelly. Heat the jelly until warm; this will make it easier to spread. A creamy filling sprinkled with chopped nuts is also good. Try: Almond Filling Chocolate Meringue Frosting French Buttercream Lemon Jelly Filling Chocolate Fudge Buttercream Frosting Mint Buttercream with Dark Chocolate Glaze The simplest decorating technique for petits fours is to glaze the top of the whole cake, and then cut it into shapes. A white chocolate glaze or fondant frosting works well for this purpose. Both will dry to a smooth surface. Score the top into squares or diamonds, and decorate. Cut the cake only when ready to serve; since the sides are left uncovered, the little cakes can dry and become stale in a very short time. To cut, dip a serrated knife in hot water and then dry it. A hot knife will cut through the glaze more smoothly. Cookie cutters with simple shapes, such as rosettes or rounds, as well as petit four cutters can also be used to cut the cake. These should be used on the unglazed cake. Each cake is then decorated individually. It is important to completely cover the exposed surfaces with glaze or fondant to prevent drying. Quick Pour Fondant Icing Quick Pour Chocolate Fondant There are innumerable ways to decorate a petit four. One way is to simply pipe designs with melted chocolate or tinted decorator frosting. But don't limit yourself. Candied citrus zest, crystallized edible flowers and leaves, and fresh berries are all excellent decorations. You can also use miniature cookie cutters to shape marzipan or rolled fondant. Add these finishing touches before the glaze or fondant sets. Decorator Frosting Best White Icing Ever To get you started on your petits fours adventure, try some of these combinations of cakes, fillings, glazes, and decorations. Before you know it you'll be the host with the most. Ruthanna, you might like some of these ideas from the Chapter titled - "The Tea Larder": Tea Trimmings A bit of milk, some sugar - one lump or two - these are the traditional partners for a cup of tea. But it's fun to experiment with a few variations on them. A nice, easy sweet-tasting tea sandwich I've had is made using a can of brown bread (with or without raisins) sliced about 1/4 inch thick. Spread a slice generously with softened cream cheese and topped with another slice of brown bread. Cut into quarters and stack on a pretty plate.
