Craftsman Screw Drive Garage Door Opener and Cold Weather
Comments (8)other than a alignment problem, sounds like to me when the grease gets alittle thick (includes the rollers in the tracks, they resist more when it cold also IMO)it don't have enough HP. What is the HP rating? Does it make different sounds when it stops? does it throw the circuit breaker or does it just stop??. It also maybe pulling too much amps and the overload system maybe shutting down. Do you have to push a reset buttom when it stops ro get it going again? sounds like you need to get out the multi-meter and check the amps see if it's within spec's for starters, If that's not it I would inspect the rollers see if you can find couple dragging pulling the HP down and the amps up. report back with the findings, there maybe electrical engineer lurking here??...See MoreCraftsman garage opener and cold weather
Comments (2)There shouldn't be any grease on the door tracks. I would suspect the wall control or the wiring to the control. You can eliminate both of these by removing the wall control wiring at terminals 1 and 2 on the motor unit. Be sure not to remove the wires coming from the door sensors or your door won't close. If this doesn't eliminate the problem you must have a bad logic board....See MoreDoor won't open in cold weather
Comments (4)My door suddenly stopped opening up when it got really cold last week. I too had to "fiddle" with the swith to get it to open. I assumed it was due to the cold weather causing some resistance. I simply adjusted the Up force adjustment knob to give it a little more force and it now opens fine. Not sure if your door opener has a force adjustment knob or not, but likely it does. I'd try that and see if it makes a difference....See MoreShould I just close the doors on the cold and forget about it?
Comments (4)Actually, I don't knoww what's there. I know it's pretty comfy for the most part, and the PO put on a new room and re-did some of the ducts. She also used a ton of that expanding ffoam to insulate the spaces around the windows when she put in the Andersons. I've been thinking about contacting the gas/electric company to see if they offer evaluations, just so I can get a good overview of what's in place. I don't *think* there would be any problem with freezing pipes if I keep those rooms closed -- I can't imagine how any are routed thru those spaces. (Half the sunporch is above the butler's pantry, the other half is over the open back porch.) Reading thru a lot of threads here I've made a list of some things I know I can do; check switch plates and baseboards for drafts and cold spots, and I'm making a weekend of checking spots that I know a problem areas. I've been enjoying having the extra fridge space in the butler's pantry over the holidays, but I did have to move tender plants out of the sunporch. Luckily there's a south facing room down the hall which gets tons of light....See Morebus_driver
